Introduction
Basically there is no significant difference between New Ultraman and other earlier Ultramen. All ultramen generally have the following characteristics :
- over 50 meters tall giant, with a basic color of red and silver on his suit.
- has a blue Color Timer ( or Life Gauge ) on his chest that will blink red when energy or time is
running out ( usually 3 minutes on Earth ).
- have a human form who uses a talisman to transform into the Ultra being.
-
the human form is usually a member of the elite earth defense force. This ineffective force, with itshuman team and their weapons / machineries, only helps to distract the monster.
- will beat up the monster first and only emit his energy beam when color timer is blinking.
- destroy the monsters to save the world.
Seeing as all ultramen created from Tsuburaya Production ( since 1966 till now ) are so similar, then how to differentiate the new ultraman from the rest ? Although there is no official publication to state the presence of the name "New Ultraman", several ultra-fans have already begin to use it to classify the newer ultramen.
Those ultramen aired on the Media from the 90s onwards are called "Heisei" Ultramen. "Heisei" is the current Japanese imperial dynasty that began with the ascent of Emperor Akihito to the throne. Whereas those ultramen aired during late Emperor Hirohito's dynasty is known as "Showa" Ultramen. For the reason of convenience, the "Heisei" ultramen are also called the New Ultramen. Another major difference is most New Ultraman have more than 1 type of battle suit or will change his suit marking as a later version ( except for Ultraman Nice and Neos ).
That will give you more or less an idea what's New Ultraman.
So who's new ? Who's old ?
