In the final episode ( number 51 and 52 ), Tiga was defeated and turned back into stone statue by monster Gatanozoh-a. All over the world children prayed for Tiga to return and save the earth. With strong wills, suddenly thousands of these children were converted into light, just as how Daigo did to transform into Tiga in the first place. Their essences of light flew into the sunken statue and Tiga was once again resurrected, but in a stronger form than before - Glitter Tiga.
This Glitter Tiga also makes other appearances in the ultra-movies :- Final Odyssey and Tiga & Dyna (see the movie section for more types of Tiga).
Background Information
Ultraman Tiga is set in an entirely new universe, which is not linked to previous Ultra series. Originally Tiga is from a race of giants who defend early human civilization on Earth about 30,000,000 years ago from Super-Ancient Monsters and other forces of darkness. Therefore indicating that Tiga is an ultra warrior that is much earlier than the original Ultraman.
According to an unofficial source in the internet, the mysteries of Tiga's background was postulated. This speculation says that, 30 million years ago ( prior to Ultraman's "birth," according to the 45,000 year age given him by Tsuburaya Productions ), three Ultra-warriors came to Earth to fight the monsters which overrun Earth's civilization ( the same ancient civilization Yuzare and Daigo come from ). These Ultra-warriors seem to have come from M78, but with one vital difference: they were literally creatures of light ... no physical bodies at all. Since they could not fight the monsters as light-beings, they fashioned bodies from the rocks & soil of our planet. These 3 fought various monsters until Gidzera, the flower-monster with pollen with a narcotic effect, appeared and took control of humans at the time. The Ultra-guardians could not stay if the humans didn't want them around, so they left Earth, leaving their bodies behind as stone statues. Before they left, however, they implanted into the DNA of all humans the ability to transform into light themselves, and reanimate the Ultra-statues. Over time, only certain individuals had this ability "active;" Daigo and Masaki (the scientist mentioned above who became the "Evil Tiga") are two with this particular genetic ability activated. In the final episode, though, Tiga is animated not only by Daigo, but by thousands of children all over the world, and by Rena.
Emphasis is placed since the first episode that Tiga is a warrior of light. In one episode, one of the monsters took a bite out of Tiga's arm. Instead of bleeding liquid, Tiga bled light but was able to heal himself quickly enough to overcome the monster.
It is the human component provided by Daigo that allows Tiga to be resurrected from a stone statue. Ultraman Tiga normally transforms simultaneously into same gigantic size as the monster, just like many of the other Ultra-heroes. However in one of the episodes, Daigo transforms into a human-sized Ultraman Tiga while in one of the GUTS aircraft, exits, and then presumably grows. In another episode, Horii ( one of the GUTS members ) gets to meet Tiga face-to-face, because he transforms to human size and stays there for the entire episode. With the help of Spark Lense, Daigo will perform some kind of hand-swinging movements before transforming into Ultraman. Whereas in some "urgent" situations, pressing the button on the Spark Lense will allow immediate transformation.
Like all Ultra-heroes, Tiga also has the Color Timer which flashes when the prerequisite timing of 3 minutes ( time he can survive on Earth ) is almost up. Once Tiga's Color Timer stops blinking, he will be transformed back into Daigo. While the Color Timer is flashing, Tiga can still change between Multi, Sky, and Power forms.
The link between the Ultraman Tiga and his human form Daigo is quite strong. Several times even when Daigo has been seriously injured, after transformation Tiga has shown to have serious pain at the injured area. However this does not weaken the strength of Tiga. Ultraman Tiga also has the feeling of Daigo. When Daigo's loved ones ( especially Rena ) was threatened, Tiga tends to be conscious of her safety, even at the risk of being injured.
The Chinese characters used for Ultraman Tiga ( ) are actually the direct translation from Cantonese pronunciation ( by Hong Kong ). Although the Mandarin pronunciation of these characters do sound like the original Japanese pronunciation, this impropriate usage will be clearer when comes to Ultraman Dyna ( ). It is quite strange that even Singapore television have accepted this and continued to dub the names in Mandarin based on the Chinese characters used by Hong Kong.
