Attachment Study Invitation
COMPENSATION INFORMATION
- $ 15.00 for interviews and observation done within your home
- $ 30.00 for observations and interviews done at the New School


                                          When your child is about 4 months old:
1. You will spend about 20 minutes to fill out two questionnaires.

2. We will conduct a one-hour long interview with you either within our lab, or within your home.

3. You and your child will be invited to the New School University for a 15-minute audio and video recording during which you will be asked to interact with your child, as you would normally do at home.

4. We ask that you will then fill out a final questionnaire regarding your mood, current relationships, cultural background, and family background. This should take no longer than 30 minutes.

Total Participation time is about 2 hours, over the course of a few weeks.
                                         When your child is about 12 months old:
1. We will observe you and your infant for about 25-30 minutes at the New School during which your child will be given the opportunity to play with toys and interact with you and a member of our research team.

2. You and your child will be videotaped at home for about an hour while you are playing and interacting together as you normally would within your home.

3. We will ask that you spend about 20 minutes to fill out a few questionnaires.

Total participation is about 2 hours.

When your child is 3 1/2 years old:
1. One of our research assistants will play a game with your child while you and another lab member observe the interactions

2. You will be interviewed by a member of our team for about an hour.

3. You will spend about 20 minutes filling out some questionnaires.

When your child is 4 1/2 years old:
1. You will spend about 30 minutes filling out some questionnaires about your child's behavior and social skills.

2. Your child's teacher will be asked to fill out the same questionnaires, but only if we are given permission by you.

3. You and your child will be videotaped engaging in play activity within your home.

4. One of our research assistants will play a game with your child while the interactions are video-taped.

                                                     
Confidentiality:
Any information that is  collected about you and your child will be kept strictly confidential. NOTHING will include your names or any private information. Additionally, no information will be released to anyone without your permission

What will happen with the results of the research study?
The results of the study will be written up and may be published in a journal related to child development. If you are interested, we will gladly send you a copy of any published findings. Any publications will not indentify individual participants, but will refer to the overall findings of the 200 mother-child pairs.
                     
    
                
What else should I know about my rights as a research participant?
In addition to your right to be informed of the study, your right to confidentiality, your right to be treated with respect and dignity in the research, and your right to inform us of any complaints about any aspect of our project; you also have the right to refuse to participate, or discontinue at anytime without penalty, or loss of benefits to which you are otherwise entitled. Your participation in this study is absolutely voluntary.
