The aim of this study is to learn more about children's early relationships with their parents. We are interested in how child temperament, early parent-child communication, and maternal sensitivity contribute to a child's emotional bond with their mother.
How much compensation will I receive for participating?
You will receive $30.00 for each observation done within our research facility and $15.00 for each interview done within your home.
I don't feel comfortable having people come to my home, is there another option?
While we assure you that we are all professionals, we understand your concern. Therefore, if you would prefer to come to our facility instead, we will give you the inital 15.00 plus 5.00 to cover any transportation costs.
I'm interested in participating, am I eligible?
Right now we are looking for American-born mothers who are either currently pregnant, or have an infant that is 5 months old or younger.
What are the benefits of participating?
We hope that you will enjoy the activities and perhaps learn a little more about your child. The findings from our research may contribute to our knowledge about children's early experiences and their early relationships with their parents.
What are the risks?
This study involves the best-known state-of-the-art observational procedures in developmental psychology. There are no known risks involved.
How long am I committed to doing this?
We ask that you participate in each step of the study which includes about 2 hours of participation when your child is 4 months old, 12 months old, 3.5 years old, and 4.5 years old. The total duration adds up to only a few hours each year.
What if we move, or I am not interested in participating anymore?
We must respect your rights and allow you to discontinue participation at any point without penalty. Participation is 100% voluntary.
What are you going to do with my information? Who will see it?
Any information that is collected about you and your child will be kept strictly confidential. Nothing will include your name or any private information and it will not be released to ANYONE without your permission.
