| Nick and his family watched as Heather won the Grammy for best new artist. She thanked her family, her producers, her friends, Brian, Dustin and Nick. After the show, The family went to bed, but Nick stayed up to wait for Heather. He paced their bedroom floor, running to the window whenever he heard a car. It wasnt her. It was never her. Nick would sigh and continue his pacing, until hed tired himself out. He changed out of his clothes and got in bed. He turned on the television and flipped through channels, finding nothing interesting. He stared at the clock often, and the later it got the angrier he got. Nick glanced at the clock by the nightstand. 3:42. He heard the sound of what sounded like a car pulling into the driveway. He climbed out of the bed and went over to he window. He watched Heather climb out of the car and walk over to the drivers side. She leaned into Dustins window and kissed him on the cheek before turning and walking towards the house. A few minutes later the bedroom door opened slowly and Heather entered. She sighed and kicked off her shoes, unaware of her observer. Where have you been? Nick asked sharply in the darkness. Startled, Heather turned and saw him standing in the corner. What are you doing up? Waiting for you, He said stepping out of the shadows. Waiting for hours, Heather knew he was angry, and the last thing she wanted was a confrontation; not after last time. Nick stood, his arms across his chest, waiting for and answer. For a moment Heather felt like she was speaking to her father instead of her fiance. Do you have logical explanation for why youve been out so late? He asked. Im sorry, She said taking her earrings out of her ears, doing her best to remain calm, but inside she was terrified. She wasnt sure what he was going to do or say, and she didnt want to say anything to set him off. But I told you Id be out later- I know. But did you stop to think that maybe I wanted to celebrate with you? You said you didnt want to go- I said I didnt want to go out, but that didnt mean I didnt want to celebrate with you. Are you really that selfish? Did you completely forget about me or the fact that my family cam e out here to spend time with us? No, but I-Are we really going to argue about this? Nick Please- No Im not going to argue with you. He said dropping his arms to his waist. Well talk about it tomorrow if were still speaking, Fine, Heather sighed. She started to walk past him but he grabbed her arm and pulled her back. Take off the make up. You look like a slut, He said before releasing her. Chapter Fifteen |
