It took a little searching to find the location of this town which is no longer in existence. Charles was living at Numa on the land claimed by his father Silas in the opening of the Cherokee Strip land run. The marriage took place at Pond Creek, Grant Co, Oklahoma Territory before Judge A. C. Glenn. Marriage License and Certificate of Marriage A land patent issued in Harper County was in the name of my grandmother, Lola Nellie Newland. Most of her children were born on this homestead. While searching for the location of this land in an old atlas, I also discovered that the small town of Selman, 12 miles SE of Buffalo, OK. was formerly known as Charleston, the location of my grandmother's home when she wed my grandfather.
