Tries:   C. Cox (2)
A. Hardy (2)
A. Meadows (2)
E.  Roberts (2)
D. Cheeseborough
G. Lawrence
D. Seabrook
Goals: Edwin (10)

A great start to the season, with only two training sessions under their belts. NEWI showed well structured play going forward. All the forwards showing strong presence crashing through the middle of Bangors defence this showed as eight of the total eleven tries coming from the pack all driving through over the line D. Seabrook, G. Lawrance, A. Meadows (2), A. Hardy (2) and C. Cox (2).
The dominance in the centre of the field pulled in Bangors wings to give the NEWI backs plenty of space to create good running plays giving D. Cheeseborough & E. Roberts (2) chances to run from their own half to score. Edwyn Roberts was given man of the match as his total for the game was twenty eight after kicking ten from eleven conversions from all over field. This was a tough decision for this years captain G. Shepherd as he has been quoted as saying that the whole team deserved to be men of the match
The team showed great courage and sprit in both offence and defence with Bangors only two tries coming from their wings after running around the challenging tackles made by NEWIs new inexperienced freashers who showed tremendous ability in only their first game of rugby league.
NEWI play in the difficult Cheshire league for only our second season after a good first finishing second combined with a good cup run. Much of NEWIs success has come from Craig Twist a GB students rugby league coach who taught us for our first season and gave us a great platform to build from, Craig has unfortunately gone on to greater things and we wish him all the best.

Our next game is away at MMU Cheshire on the 20th of October.

N.e.w.i's second game of the season did not go to plan as they where beaten by a cruel last gasp try after looking to have secured a point in a thrilling game. With 4 first team players missing, n.e.w.i newcomers were thrown in the deep end with winger mickael Denis being pushed into the second row as a number of players playing out of position in a make shift side. Manchester quickly took the incentive scoring two tries in the first 5 minuets of the game, However N.e.w.i Showed great fighting spirit and turned the game on its head with three unanswered tries from Owain Brown, Graeme shepperd and Iwan Brown all going over, This left the score at half time 14-12 to Newi.
In the second half Manchester started the stronger, But it took them 15 minuets to brake a resolute newi defence with great tackling from Debutant Spanish winger Jordi putting in some huge tackles when the opposition looked set to score. Newi then replied almost instantly with a clever try from Hooker Chris Cox, After great forward play by Geoff Lawrence and other debutant Chris. Newi took a 4 point lead into the final 10 minuets on for Manchester to score near the posts, but with a missed conversion it left the scores even with minuets left, only for A Manchester winger to score straight from the restart after some lucky bounces of the ball. N.e.w.I can take great pride from todays game after fielding a make shift side of inexperience.
