Tamara was successful in finding a job at a library close to where she lived. The demands on her were few and for the first time in months, things were looking up for her. Her doctor had prescribed a new tranquilizer that agreed with her, keeping her fears at bay most of the time. Steven had made good on his promise and they'd had several dates. Their friendship soon ripened into love and when Steven suggested she move into his apartment with him, Tamara readily agreed. She was tired of being alone.

Fear shot through her the morning she became dizzy and nauseous upon rising. "No!No! she silently screamed. "Not now!" She quickly swallowed a pill, hoping it would calm her but the symptoms persisted. A week went by like this and a trip to the doctor confirmed the fact that she wasn't experiencing symptoms of panic...she was pregnant!

Tamara's heart was heavy! She dreaded the thought of telling Steven...if she told him at all. How could she burden him with this? He was striving so hard for his promotion. There was no place in his life now for a wife and baby. Tamara knew she wasn't capable of caring for a baby alone. She also knew that her baby deserved two parents. Her mind was reeling! Maybe I'm jumping to conclusions," she thought. "Maybe Steven will marry me!" At the back of her mind was the only other alternative...abortion! The thought repelled her...went against all her beliefs.

That evening she tentatively broached the subject of marriage with Steven. "I'm not ready for marriage, Tamara," he said. "Maybe in a year or two when my future is more secure." Tamara's hopes were dashed! As the weeks slipped by, she knew she would soon have to make a decision. Steven knew she was troubled but found it impossible to get through to her. He kept telling her that he would always be there for her, but would he still be there if she interfered with his dreams? Tamara made her decision. She would have the abortion. After all...this was the 90's...abortions were quite common. She and Steven would have other children.

The day came when she was due to go to the clinic. There was still time for her to change her mind...but she wouldn't! She opened the clinic door and walked inside.
