Tigers force Pirates overboard...
Klein chooses Minot State... Senior football star Erik Klein will take his talent to Minot State University this fall. Klein starred at tight end, defensive tackle, linebacker and kicker for the Tigers. His brother Mike was an All-American kick returner for the Beavers in his season season. He will be coached by Mike Sivertson. The Beavers play their home games at Herb Parker Stadium in Minot, N.D. For tickets call 701-858-3041.
Former Tigers standout Brian Erickson played his final season in a Beaver uniform earning All-Dac 10 second team honors at WR and was a captain.
Klein's high school head coach Mike Schatz was a fullback for Minot St in the '70s.
Hoopster ranks Tigers in Preseason Power Poll... The boys basketball team is picked 26th in the state preseason power poll. Other Region 7 teams ranked are South Heart (3), Mott-Regent (15), Trinity (19) and Bowman (38). The Tigers are picked to finish second in the district and fourth in the region.
Other area teams ranked are Standing Rock (6), Shiloh Christian (16) and Elgin-New Leipzig (29).
Football All-State selections... Kyle Nieuwsma and Erik Klein were both selected to the North Dakota nine-man all-state second team. Nieuwmsa was selected as an offensive lineman and Klein as a defensive lineman.
Football All-conference selections... Seniors Kyle Nieuwsma, Erik Klein, Michael Steier, Christopher Jung and Tyler Krebs were named to the Region 5 all-conference team. Juniors Ross Kuhn, Dakota Gant, Josh Schatz and Todd Erickson were selected to the Region 5 honorable mention team.
