History of New Brick City

Hello and welcome to New Brick City. You may call me Tom. I am a firefighter from New Jersey and just can't get away from LEGO bricks.

New Brick City started out like most LEGO cities, a big pile of bricks. I have always been an avid builder for as far back as I can remember. I have no idea what my first LEGO set was but I'm sure it was Duplo if not Quatro. The idea for an actual city with a name came from when I joined the Mutual Aid Association of Lego Fire Departments (MAALFD). I had already been building my fire trucks with the FDNY striping so I decided to create my favorite city, New York, in LEGO; calling it New Brick City.

The original website started right before I joined the MAALFD as it was basically a requirement. After 2 years I moved to Geocities because it is a lot more customizable and easy to use. The FDNB page was of course the one I put the most time into as that was my priority. The main page and the police and road department pages followed. The FDNB page eventually got a makeover after I found the website for FDNY Engine and Ladder 10 but the other pages remained primative.

After a period of not doing anything with LEGOs, I got back into the swing of things. I had picked up some HTML while playing around with other websites and decided it was time that my LEGO webpages get in on the action. Up until that time the "city" was whatever I had actually built and nothing else. My resources were limited and I only had so many bricks to work with. This restrained my city from expanding to a more New York level. I ended up downloading MLCAD and that changed my way of thinking as I could now build just about anything I wanted to. My new thought was to make many different parts of a city: buildings, vehicles, benches, trashcans, all that stuff. And so I would have a site to showcase these individual parts and that would represent my city as a whole.

That said, I decided that I would make more than just a website about my city. I would make part of the site a "how to" on LEGOs. There would be sections about modeling and tips & tricks with LEGO bricks (<---I like the sound of that). This site is designed to be user friendly for kids and adults alike. Some pages have a good amount of writing but I try to make pictures that are easy to understand to go with them.
This would be an enormous undertaking but in the end would be well worth it. I hope you enjoy this site for all that it is worth. Any questions or comments are welcome!

-Tom
