COURT CASES AND APPEALS

The regeneration of Ballymun is vitally important to our community.  In fact, so important, that we know of no one who objects to Ballymun being regenerated properly.  However we believe that BRL's plans for regeneration need to be seriously revised.
If there was no problem with the plan concieved by BRL, if it was SO good, who could possibly find fault with it?

The fact that there are planning objections, appeals, court cases, and in fact the reason this website exists is because many people are unhappy with the plans as a whole plan.
We are NOT unhappy will all the individual bits of the plan.
We are unhappy with the design of the  plan.

Everyone understands that housing and other buildings have to be built in phases.  That is what is meant when the words 'phased development' are used.

But phased development is different to phased planning.
PLANNING SHOULD BE HOLISTIC.
It should take into account all the elements of the plan together, and not taken as separate little bits.

Detailed plans should have been made before development.
If that happened, everyone could see how they would be affected by developments in other parts of the estate.  You could see how close your neighbours would be in a differently planned site.
In that way BRL could have reached a consensus with the community.
It's not enough that Ballymun should be regenerated.  The people of Ballymun must be behind the development and support it for it to succeed.

Instead we have planning objections, appeals and court cases taken by informed people who are unhappy with the way the regeneration of Ballymun is being implemented.

Ballymun New Century Development Group has NOT been involved in any planning appeals or court cases.
It is our hope that we would not have to take this step.
The purpose of this page is to provide information on objections, planning appeals and Judicial Reviews taken by other individuals and groups.

Text of an appeal to An Bord Pleanala regarding the Gateway Housing scheme on Ballymun Road by 18 residents. There was several objections to the original planning application.  This included an objection by Roisin Shortall TD and also residents of Ceant Tower who believed that they were going to be housed in the Gateway Scheme but won't be now.  Click Here
