Festival Party

Prepare for some outdoor wet & wild fun!

Host this party for a summertime birthday, or simply to celebrate summer.
This party is perfect for children of all ages.

Invitations:

Supplies:

      Roll of tickets
      Poster board
Dowel rods (two for each poster)
      Markers
      Duct tape
Olympic type medals (one for each child)
      Award certificates
Prizes of equal value (one for each child)
      2 hula hoops
      Whistle
      Additional supplies for individual activites

Preparation:

      1. Pray for nice weather!

      2. Set up a "Ticket Booth"...a small table with a sign taped to the front. Tape a small sheet of paper to the top of the table for guests to read ticket prices, such as:

        2 tickets.....$1.00
        10 tickets....$5.00
        20 tickets...&10.00

Guests can use their play money to purchase tickets

      3. Make separate signs on poster board for each activity with the name of the activity and number of tickets required. Tape a brown lunch bag to the front of posters for collecting tickets. Duct tape dowel rods to the back of posters (one on each side) to push into the ground where the event will take place. For a more festive touch, tape a couple balloons to the posters.

      4. Plan events/games, and collect additional supplies needed

      5. Make award certificates to pass out with an award medal (one for each child) at the end of the party; certificates may included such things as:

        Fastest Runner
        Highest Jumper
        Most Energetic
        Etc....use your imagination.

      6. Wrap prizes of equal value for each child to choose from as they receive their award.

      7. Prepare food and drinks (grilled hot dogs and plenty of lemonade for thirsty players)

Games/Activites:

If you have enough volunteers to help with games, you may decide to allow guests to roam independantly to the games of their choice. There are a few activities, however, that are best played as a group.

      Obstacle Course:(group activity)

This can be as elaborate or as simple as you like. Here are a few suggestions...

        1. We found 6 to 8 old tires to line up in two rows for stepping through (football training style).
        2. Picnic table/card table to crawl under, or appliance size cardboard box to crawl through.
        3. After crawling under the table or through the box, run backwards to where an old sack is placed.
        4. Hop in the sack to the next designated spot where a squirt gun is placed.
        5. Hang a pie tin from a tree branch within firing range of the squirt gun. The target (pie tin) must be shot with the squirt gun before continuing.
        6. Run to hula hoop...do five rounds of hula hoop.
        7. Skip to the next spot a short distance away where an inflated balloon is waiting...to complete the course sit on the balloon to pop, then run for the finish line.

      Cracker Whistle Contest: (group game)

Have everyone gather as a group. Pass out one er to each guest. At the sound of the whistle, everyone must completely chew and swallow their er...the winner being the first one to whistle. Have the video camera ready for this one!

      Bubble Pool:

Purchase plenty of bubble wands in various sizes and shapes, or make your own. Fill a small inflatable kiddie pool with homemade bubble solution. See my Bubble Page for a recipe and more ideas.

      Wet Sponge Toss:

Supplies needed: bucket with water, three large sponges, hula hoop, an volunteer to stand as target.

Place hula hoop on the ground 10 to 15 feet away from the target. Player stands inside the hula hoop area to throw three water soaked sponges at the target. The volunteer who is target may dodge the sponge without moving feet from their position.

      Pie-In-The-Face:

Supplies needed: a few tin pie plates, aerosol whipped cream, sturdy cardboard (approximately 4-ft. X 4-ft.), hula hoop.

Paint a colorful bullseye on the cardboard with several rings about 12-inches wide. Label each ring with points earned if the "pie" hits there. Cut-out a circle in the center of the bullseye, large enough for an volunteer to put their face through (you might have to draw straws for this job!) I would suggest wearing a shower cap and goggles. Have pie tins with a small amount of whipped cream ready. Players stand inside a hula hoop placed on the ground 10 to 15 feet away, and will have one pie to throw at the bullseye.

      Face Painting

      Water Ballon Toss: (group activity)

Construction of a Cardboard Box Maze is optional. It is always a huge hit at a party!

A terrific place to buy party items in quantity is Oriental Trading Company I always like to have theme music playing when we have a party. The best place to find what you need is at your local library.
