Week 2 - Trip to Mesa Verde in Colorado.

This weekend was spent camping at Mesa Verde National Park. The trip was three hours long and filled with amazing scenes (Isn't God Awesome). We arrived in the park and set up camp. We then left to have supper in Durango, 45 minutes away. After dinner we spent an hour in some hot springs. They were so relaxing. Back at the campsite, we talked and made s'mores. The next morning we toured Mesa Verde. Mesa Verde is an area where the Anasazi, a race of Pueblo Native Americans, once lived. They were at first hunter/gatherers, but soon built villages into the sides of cliffs. One of these sites is Cliff Palace. The Anasazi vanished around the 12th century. Many of their ruins have been preserved, however. A second site built by the Anasazi built is called the Spruce Treehouse. The Anasazi people were a very religious people. They had places of worship called kivas. Traditionally, only males would attend the special services held in the kivas. This was where they called on the spirits of the earth. Each village would have a number of kivas, often one for each tribe.
