It's obvious that Sullivan Entertainment took great liberty with these wonderful characters created by Ms. Montgomery. The acting was half-hearted, the dialog weak and script untrue to th characters. We taped it when it aired on PBS and promptly erased it. Oh the heartache! The movie put us "in the depths of despair" as we watched our beloved Anne turned into a shallow, wishy washy, shadow of her former self. I'll bet Ms. Montgomery i spinning in her grave! |

People who are sincere -and when it comes down to it, appreciate the hope and faith that you hold. Do you believe in love at first site: No, I don't really think so. Years ago I might have. But since then my perspective has changed a bit. Although "Anne" is a fictional movie, I have come to value the representation of love that Gilbert and An e shared. It wasn't a "Hey babe. I'm attracted to you, you're attracted to me. Let's do somethin' about it." It was a true friendship that over time evolved into a lovely, poignant romance that wasn't mushy, fake or temporal, but lasting. The third movie was definitely different than the first two in that it captured so much more suspense! I was on the edge of my seat. I liked it. Great page! Just wanted to make one clarification....that picture from Romeo and Juliet that you have labeled as being from Shaw Festival is actually from the Stratford Festival. It's Crombie with Marian Day (Juliet). I first fell for Crombiw when I as in sixth grade and saw him as Gilbert in Anne of Green Gables...and then a few years later in Avonlea. I had thought that that's where it ended until I did a websearch in December of 1996 and found him at Stratford Festival....and playing ROMEO no les ! So I got a group of friends together (who had all seen 'Anne' and said "Oh it's GILBERT!?") and we ordered tickets to go and see 'Gilbert' as Romeo in July. I was kinda shocked to see that he had aged considerably...I guess I thought he'd stay young fo ever =). Anyway...when he first stepped onto the darkened stage and spoke, I *knew* that voice! He was a wonderful Romeo..athletic, emotional, expressive... I can honestly say that he's still a great actor and I would like to see him again. However I tho ght that the Mercutio from the same performance (Geordie Johnson) was excellent too. (He also had a small part in "The English Patient") I would *love* to see him again! So if you've never thought of going to Stratford...find time to go (its a really nea place!) And if you'd like I could e-mail you pictures of Crombie from both the play program and a Festival "newspaper". Just let me know! I enjoyed your page! |
