Toinette’s Bio

Hello, my name is Toinette Whitaker and I am an Administrative Assistant at Halifax Community College. HCC is in Weldon, NC which is right next to the VA border for those of you not familiarwith this area. I have been employed here for four years now and working in education has helped me to make the decision to return to school and pursue my Master's degree. I work with all 60 faculty members and 25 part-time faculty. It seems I have been on the wrong side of things for far too long, since it has always been my dream to teach.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the program here at the University and meeting new and different people each class. So far I have learned a great deal that will help me in my future endeavors. I received my Associate's degree from HCC in Medical Office Technology and my Bachelor's degree from Shaw University in Public Administration. I guess you can say I am pretty well rounded. I have worked in law enforcement for seven years, public health for three years and now in education.

I am a single mother of one daughter and a grandmother to one precious baby boy. My daughter keeps saying he is spoiled, but I can't imagine who did it. Ha Ha! I have one Beta fish named Blue. I love to cook, clean and work in my garden which I haven't had a lot of time for since beginning this program. However, in the end I know it will all be worth it. I look forward to this class and to continued learning in the field of education. I also look forward to the end.
