Week 3: Jets vs Bills

I've had some pretty easy games so far, but now it's time for me to meet my match. Yes, that's right, the Buffalo Bills. Not only are they the most dangerous team in the game, but they're also 0-2, which makes them even more dangerous. My only hope is to injure Thurman Thomas, but even then I'd still have to deal with QB Bills, Bruce Smith, Andre Reed, C. Bennett...

I think that's the only time I've seen Hasty's
name in big letters.

1st Quarter

The Bills get the ball first and hand it off to Jamie Mueller and he gets...OH MY GOD A FUMBLE!! After James Hasty's 15 minutes of fame, I march down to the 7, but only end up with a field goal after Bruce Smith hits Blair Thomas for a 3-yard loss. On third down, QB Bills lasers a pass to Andre Reed for 44 yards, and then a 18 yarder to Jamie Mueller to the 2. From there, Thurman scores on his first carry. 7-3 Bills.

2nd Quarter

Pinned at my own 5 yard line, Blair rattles off a 31-yard run. Yes, thirty-one. On the next play, Al Toon makes a cutscene-worthy diving catch at the Buffalo 40, but then proceeds to cough it up to Mark Kelso immediately. While I'm busy shouting at the refs, Reed gets another first-down grab, but the Billies settle for 3. Looking for the tying score, Ken OBrien launches one downfield to Toon, who again makes a great catch, but again fumbles immediately. It takes Buffalo all but 2 plays to go about 70 yards for a TD, thanks to a huge run by Thurman.
Halftime; 17-3 Bills
Well, it's obvious the refs aren't on my side. For most of the half Thurman was pretty much a decoy, but it looks like I'm going to be seeing alot more of him in the 2nd half. All in all, this game is about over.

Nothing but daylight, baby.

3rd Quarter

Freeman McNeil, on his second carry of the game, fumbles on 3rd down to give the Bills the ball at midfield. Thurman takes to the 10 with 40-yard catch-and-run, but my defense comes through and holds them to a field goal. A Shane Conlan sack makes it 3rd and 18, but Al Toon makes another diving catch for 22 yards (fortunately, he hangs on to it this time). Facing a 2nd and long, OBrien guns a pass to Rob Moore to the 9, but unfortunately, I'm still at the 9 yard line 3 plays later. Realizing I'm down by 17 toward the end of the 3rd, I go for it, but Blair gets run over by Big Bruce in the backfield again. 20-3 Bills.

4th Quarter

Thurman runs for another 40, but two plays later, a gift is sent to me from the heavens. Thurm fumbles, and who is there to scoop it up but Dennis Byrd, who rumbles 57 yards for the Jets' first touchdown of the game. However, spirits are quickly broken as Thurman recovers the onside kick to the Jets 20, and QB Bills connects with James Lofton in the endzone. Leonard Smith picks off OBrien with 1:24 left to practically end the game.

Final

Thank God it's over. If it hadn't been for James Hasty and Dennis Byrd, both of whom had fumbles that led to scores, I would've been shut out. Of course, it didn't help that I fumbled 3 times and was sacked 5 times. Just a horrible, horrible game. When I meet the Bills in week 14, I hope Thurman is injured. And QB Bills. And Bruce Smith. Oh wait...defenders can't be injured. Damn.
Player of the Game: Dennis Byrd
57-yard fumble recovery touchdown

Since Byrd was the only player to score a TD, and the rest of the team sucked anyway, he's the only real candidate here. That TD alone might be enough to get him team MVP. He busted up and outran so many Bills players on that run, it was awesome.
