Week 1: Jets vs Buccaneers

My team starts the season with high expectations. Not just expectations of achievement and glory and all that good stuff, but also expectations of kicking the living snot out of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Against an underachieving offense lead by WR Mark Carrier and a defense consisting of CB Wayne Haddix and a bunch of other guys I don't care about, my New York Jets shouldn't have too much trouble starting the season with a W.

Not even Wayne Haddix could catch him??

1st Quarter

I got the ball first, but I had to punt after my play was picked 3 times in a row. However, on the next play Erik McMillan intercepted Vinny Testaverde and I had the ball back at the Bucs' 34 yard line. On 3rd and 13, Ken O.Brien luanched a pass to Rob Moore in the endzone for a 37-yard score. Strangely enough, Testes threw the same pass after the kickoff and McMillan picked it off again. So I went to Moore again and scored from 23 yards. 14-0 Jets

2nd Quarter

Tampa Bay acutally gained positive yardage on their next drive, but were forced to punt. Blair Thomas broke a long run, but then coughed up the ball at the Tampa Bay 40. Gary Anderson broke a big run of his own, but instead of fumbling like Never-Was, he took it to the house. I put together a good drive at the end, but Pat Leahy shanked a 40-yarder. 14-7 Jets

Halftime

Well, I can't say my team played great, but we we're winning 14-7. Note that every touchdown so far has come from turnovers.

They didn't notice the giant "2" streaking down
the field was Anderson until it was too late.

3rd Quarter

The Bucs started the half with a good drive, but Vinny threw his third pick of the game to Brain Washington at my 11 yard line. O.Brien hit Al Toon for a big gain, and Freeman McNeil finished the drive with a 21-yard TD run. 21-7 Jets

4th Quarter

At around the 4:00 mark, Anderson fumbled and James Hasty recovered at my 42. I didn't do much with the ball, so I punted once again. The Bucs went nearly 70 yards on their last drive, but fell short of the endzone.

Final

The Buccaneers ran the ball well, but they couldn't get it done in the passing game. My DBs harrassed Tampa Bay's receivers and even held Mark Carrier to 0 catches.

Player of the Game: Erik McMillan
2 interceptions

Along with his 2 interceptions, he was also a key player in virtually shutting down Tampa Bay's passing game. His picks set up the game's first 2 touchdowns. Not a bad start.
