One of the
strangest and most controversal series' of the sixties, it is almost
impossible to describe or explain this allegorical series, based on the
cult of the individual and the need for mans own mind and status. |
|
Patrick McGoohan plays
the hero of the piece, a nameless (as we never do find out his name)
secret agent (possibly a tie in to his previous series Dangerman where
he played a secret agent called John Drake) who we first meet in the
opening credits, where we see him racing around London in his yellow
Lotus Seven.
He drives into what appears to be a
subway, and we next see him marching up a corridor with a face like
thunder!!! he reaches a pair of double doors, which he promptly throws

to reveal a
man sitting at his desk, the opening music masks anything McGoohan has
to say to him as he thrusts a resignation letter on to his desk and
charges out again, jumps back into his car and back to his house. Inside
he starts packing a suitcase untill someone gasses him through his
letterbox, he then passes out. |
When he wakes he opens
the drawn curtains to reveal he is a long way from London, he is in a
strange beautiful but sinister village.
We then hear the immortal banter
that opened every episode, No6's (McGoohan) conversation with each new

Our hero is soon named as
no6 and is told that the reason he has been brought there is they want to
know why he resigned, no6's refusal to divulge this information leads to
attempt after attempt to break him down through drugs, mind games and
elaborate tricks and traps designed to rob him of his individuality and
ego. |
I love this
programme there are so many different meanings to it and interpretations
of it depending on who you talk to, but watch for yourself and make up
your own mind
