Ready Steady Go! The catchphrase went the weekend starts here! and you heard Manfred Man count you down 5...4...3...2...1 and you knew you were in the right place for some great music.Friday evening belonged to Ready Steady Go!!!

The presenters were Keith Fordyce and Kathy McGowan it was first broadcast on 9th August 1963 in a half hour slot at 7pm and the first acts were Billy Fury and Brian Poole and the Tremeloes, in front of two hundred teenagers the theme was orginally the Surfaris "wipe out" soon replaced with the more distinctive 5-4-3-2-1.
In 1964 it moved to a 50 minute begining at 6.05pm. The studio disco set allowed the audience onto the studio floor for dancing and mingling with the appearing stars.

The show featured both new releases, exsisting hits and off the cuff interviews with the artists .

The venue Wembley studio (now Fountain) was not always available every Friday so the show was pre-recorded on a Tuesday.

Resident dancers were Theresa Confrey and Patrick Kerr who demonstrated new dances alongside "members of the public" who were chosen specialy from the Sabre Club.

                                 
Later a Ready Steady Go! magazine was launched and in 1965 Ready Steady Goes Live! was aired featuring live transmissions and live acts where previously acts had mimed to their records. The series ran untill 23rd December 1966.

The ownership of the Ready Steady Go tapes now belongs to Dave Clark of The Dave Clark Five,who acquired them in the Eighties.
