2003 Rider Cup Rules

Date: July 5, 2003 (Week 1810)

RULES:

1) This competition is open to any residency in existence on the date of January 28, 2003, and still currently in existence.  Each residency will be assigned a team of either US or World, depending on where they are located.

2) Each residency will host 1 race in which they will choose the name and location.  Race Restrictions have been previously assigned, but can be changed with executive approval.

3) Each residency will be allowed 1, and only 1, horse per race.  This will amount in a total of 12 horses in each race.

4) The type of races have been previously assigned, and can be found by clicking here.

5a) All race names, credits for races, and locations for the race are due to me NO LATER THAN June 21, 2003 (Week 1796).  If special circumstances exist, let me know and we can work something out.

5b) All Race Conditions must be final NO LATER THAN June 14, 2003 (Week 1789).  Most are already set, but if you are unhappy with something (e.g. You have an MSW, but want an ALW), let me know BY June 14 and we will change it accordingly.

5c) All entrants names/IDs are due NO LATER THAN June 29, 2003 (Day after Week 1803).  This is the Sunday of the races, and therefore I want it in so I can assign passwords.  Any later than Sunday could cause a problem for some residencies and handing out passwords.

6) Each residency has the right to choose their entrants in any way they want.  It is up to the residency manager.

7) Each race will be scored a number of points.  The winner gets 10, 2nd gets 7, 3rd gets 5, 4th gets 3, 5th gets 2, and 6th-last get 1.  Or, in cleaner form:

    Winner-10 Points

    Second Place- 7 Points

    Third Place- 5 Points

    4th Place- 3 Points

    5th Place- 2 Points

    6th-12th Place- 1 Point

The total number of points for each team (World and US) will be added up.  The winning team will earn 200 credits per residency, and the leading residency will pick up an additional 300 credits!  The residency manager will decide what to do with these credits.

8) Have fun!  This is a contest to get all the residencies (or at least most of them, since 3 have started after the initial plans) to get to know each other, and inspire a rivalry between them.  Also, it gets people ready for next year's Equinics, a much larger event.

--------------------------------------

For all Residency Managers:

First of all, I want to announce that the date of the Rider Cup will be on July 5, or in Week 1810 (no one had a preference, and this allows a long time so that people can get things done when they have the time).  I checked the Special Races, and while there are 10 Graded Stakes that week, this appears to be a small number.  Also, there is only 1 G1, and only 2 of the Graded races are at the most basic distances- 6f, 8f, 10f, 12f, and 16f.

Now, for some of the things regarding the races:  I want to do this so that every residency is equal, and that everyone gets a race at their home track.  Therefore, it will be best if everyone buys 1 race.  This should amount in 14 total races.  I think it will be easiest if you transfer me the credits to buy the race.  This way, everything is centralized, and we don’t have to worry about 12 different people with passwords, and getting 14 different people the IDs of 12 different horses, etc.  However, if you feel uncomfortable transferring me the credits, we can work it out where you can buy the race yourself.  My credit account is nerdstable.  Please transfer it there.

Along with the Race buying, I want to say this.  I think it will be best if all the races are Allowance races.  This way it’s cheaper than stakes.  Now, I understand that top horses may not want to be run in allowances, but we can’t make these races Graded (unless we want to pay a lot of money.  We could, but I want this to not be overly costly).  If you want to make your race a stakes, just tell me.  As much as I want a high reward for the horses entering it, I don’t want to overshadow the Equinics.  I wanted this to be a smaller thing where residencies got to know each other, and ahve a little fun while at it.  However, if we feel that it is important to make these races stakes, or even graded stakes, we can talk about that later.  That’s why I’m doing this now as opposed to on June 30.

Also, when/if you transfer the credits to me, I need a name for your race.  It can be anything you want, it just needs a name.  I have graphics done for both the US home races and the World home races, and left spots for names.  So, either you or your residency should decide a name for it.  It can be anything at all (such as The Ruffian, which was an Equinics race).  So, please send me this in an e-mail along with “I sent you 800 credits” or something to that effect, or “I don’t feel comfortable sending you credits, but here’s the name” and I will send you the graphic so you can buy the race.

Now, on to the scoring, etc.  For every race, scoring will be as follows:

Winner-10 Points

Second Place- 7 Points

Third Place- 5 Points

4th Place- 3 Points

5th Place- 2 Points

6th-12th Place- 1 Point

I’m doing it like this because smaller residencies (such as my NERD or RRR) might not have the best horses in some races, I and don’t want anybody to get shut-out.  That is per residency.  The winning team will get 1 point.  In other words, let’s say EWC wins the race.  The World team will get 1 point.  The team with the most points in the end will win.

Prizes:  The winning team will each split 1400 credits, or 200 credits per residency.  The winning residency from the above scale will earn an extra 300 credits.  These numbers can go up if anyone donates credits for the prizes, but again, I want to do this for fun, not necessarily to win credits.  I realize that a prize adds to the fun and they are needed in order to ensure participation, but the beating of another residency should be fun too.  It is up to you all as to what you do with the credits if you win.  In the event of a tie between the 2 teams, a race restriction will be selected at a later date and will be run the following week.  The winning team will win.  This race WILL count toward the residency standings too.  So, if you win after the initial races, but end up losing after this tiebreaker, I’m sorry, but you lose.  In the event of a tie between residencies for the bonus 300, each residency will recieve 300 credits.

It is up to you to decide how to select the horses to run in the races for your residency.  Any way you would like is fine.  I need to know the IDs of the entrants from your residency by June 28, or the Saturday before the race.  You can send them to me at any time, but that is the deadline.  If you do not get it in by then, your residency will not be participating in the 2003 Rider Cup.

Races:  The following will be the 12 races that will be run.  It was picked completely at random, except that I gave the World the 6 turf races, and the US the 6 dirt races (a little more realistic).  So, feel free to trade ANY of the conditions, as long as they don’t match a current race.  You must e-mail me with the change, however, so I can have a record of it (so when I buy the race, I don’t screw up ;) ).  Also, if you are 1 of the 2 with an MSW (1 World, 1 US), feel free to upgrade to an allowance.  While I think it would be cool to have a couple of MSWs, I can understand how you would feel about maybe “getting screwed”.  Anyway, here are the races and which residency will buy each one. If there is a problem, and you don’t have the credits and your residents can’t help, e-mail me and we will work something out.

Maiden Special Weight-Dirt-6f- All horses 3yo: NWRC

Notice how there is no 3yo turf, only 1 F&M 3yo race, etc.  But with only 12 races, it’s hard to put in conditions for every possible horse.

What you (as residency manager) need to do:

Select 1 horse for each of the 12 races (process is up to you, you can have residents decide, whatever)

Transfer the credits to buy your race to: nerdstable, and e-mail me telling me that you transferred them.

In that e-mail, include the name of your race.

That should be it.  Hopefully it won’t be too much.  I will take care of the rest.
