Neptunian Football League

Sister league of the Canadian Football League

Hosted by www.Geocities.ws

There are 24 football teams in the NFL Neptunian Football League (based in whole on the CFL [Canadian football league]; is almost nothing like the NFL, except for the fact that they are both football).

Football has been played in Neptunia since at least 1290; the NFL started-up with six teams in 1312, the year Franscico Magnolia donated a trophy because he liked football so much. He wanted to see the teams in the league play to win something. They now play for the Magnolia Trophy (it is a Silver pear-shapped trophy. It has a barrel shaped body that goes from narrow to wide. It holds all the names of the players from the teams that have won the Magnolia Trophy and the final score of the Magnolia Trophy game).

The first six teams in the league were Crystal, Memphis, Foxboro, Darwin (moved to Coral in 1319), Cheyenne and Ludlow. Most of the Ludlow team waskilled in a train accident in 1321. There was no Trophy given out in 1321. The season was cancelled soon after the accident.

A result of the Ludlow teams tragic death, there was an expansion the next year to twelve teams. The reason was logical. Not only to balance out the division but, as Neptunia became bigger and more states were added, to accomodate a large fan base in the west who liked football as well. The seven teams were: Edmonton, Modesto, Phoenix, Columbia, Matrix, Monterray and Buena Vista.

There were actually nine teams who were granted franchises, but two of the teams - which cities they may have been from were never disclosed - folded before the expansion draft.

In 1344, the league doubled yet again. There were twelve new teams: Hedgehog, Aurora, Avalon, Marshall, Aspen, Nassau, Turtle Rock, Neptunia City, Columbus, Halifax, Salem and Tomahawk. There have been no expansions since 1344, some 76 years ago.

Cheyenne has won the most Magnolia Trophy's of the original six. They have ten, but have only had one dynasty: 1315, 16 & 18. Edmonton, which came into the league in 1322, has 17, including an unprecidented six in a row from 1369-1374 & seven out of eight from 1369-1376.

To be clasified as a "dynasty," a team must have been in the finals three years or more (not nessescarily consecutivley). Appearances must not be more than two years apart [Ex) 42, 43, 45 works, 81, 84, 86 does not.] You don't have to win the Trophy each year, but you must win the Trophy at least once.

All teams in the league now have won the Trophy at least once. Edmonton Has been in the Magnolia Trophy game 26 times, winning 17. Phoenix, on the other hand, has been in it 12 times, winning only twice. Three teams have only won once: Ludlow was 1/2; Columbus is 1/3 & Salem is 1/7.

Because of Neptunias mild climate, the season starts the third week in May with three pre-season games, which are always against teams in the opposite conference (West V. East). The regular season starts the second week in June. Each team will play 22 games; three games against division teams and one or two games against the other eight teams in the other two divisions. See example below.

TEAM A:

It's Division (Div A):

TEAM B: 3 games
TEAM C: 3 games
TEAM D: 3 games

Other 2 Divisions:

Div B
TEAM E: 1 game
TEAM F: 2 games
TEAM G: 1 game

Div C
TEAM H: 1 game
TEAM I: 2 games
TEAM J: 2 games

It should be noted that the three "single" games will not come from teams all in one division. The three "single" games will be choosen at random amongst the six "non-division" teams (teams NOT in TEAM A's division.)

Also, there are two conferences with twelve teams each, six divisions, and four teams in each division. The conferences do not intermingle games. A team in the Western Conference will NOT play a team in the Eastern Conference.
