Sports- who's playing who?

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's af2 team gets name!
On Wednesday, it was announced that the Arena Football 2 franchise has chosen a winner in the name-that-team contest.

The name? The Pioneers.

Luzerne Country Convention Center Authority Chairman Kevin Blaum told the Times Leader that this name has staying power, and will not lose luster as time goes on, as more flashy names would. He also commented that the name captures people of all sorts and captures the spirit of NEPA created by our ancestors.

The team is finalizing color schemes, logo and getting a head coach. The playing begins April 2002.
