Today we were
invited to Murten which probably no one from the international club members
known before. In sunny and hot weather we entered with around 130 people this
old town. Divided in 7 groups (2 German, 2 Italian, 2 English and one French
spoken) we had a sightseeing tour. Soon the impression was: Swatch is on every
edge. Murten is a nice town where the middle age still is life and living.
Our guide made
a good job and told us a lot of funny stories but also “hard facts” about
Murten. I don’t know if the other guides were also as good as our man. In fact
Murten is close to the lake of Murten, therefore we had fish for lunch served
on a terrace with best view over the lake. I personally forgot to ask for an
alternative meal. So I was still hungry when we started on a boat trip – my
fault. But I was able to drink Rivella… taste it in
Switzerland!
At the end of
the boat trip somewhere else (sorry… Names and places – long ago) Nick Hayek
and Ted Scapa waited for us at the gate. Named “Artistic Workshop”, Scapa
developed some drawings with us, explained the background, his idea of life and
gave us the big entertainer or more over the philosopher. In Scapas’ garden we
were invited for a glass of champagne and for a buffet. By the way: photos you will find here.
Thanks to Peter… my camera did not work well, therefore this link.
Soon we found
out why Swatch organized this meeting with Ted Scapa – he is the designer of
the Montreux 2003 Swatch. And this Swatch, packed in a special paper sleeve, is
the Special Event Swatch for the GP-Members.
The idea was to
split the members in three groups – one visit Scapas’ flat, another groups his
atelier and gallery and the third group has the possibility to get their
Swatches signed by the artist. You might know what happened: everyone wanted to
sign his Swatch first. Especially those who were able to buy the Swatch in a
frame with an original print from Scapa included and numbered. By the way:
number 1 of 89 went to Germany.
In this case
the organizers had a good idea – those who were allowed to buy the frame had to
pick up a numbered ticket and this number is the number of their painting. This
is a fair solution.
Scapa had a lot
to sign. We left 30 minutes later to “Schloss Münchenweiler” – were we had
dinner, than expected. Also in my eyes “in the middle of nowhere” this castle
is completely renovated and used as a restaurant. Unfortunately 4 Germans and 4
French members on one table had not so much to speak together… the language gap
is bigger than the river Rhine.
Late in the
night we arrived back in Biel just right to enter the Hotel bars and to
speculate about “Mystery Park” which will follow here.
