Medicine have made a grate progress
by 3 important discoveries:

1.  In 1929 the medicine community has proved that heart rate
     disorders can be regulated by defibrillation.
2.  In 1965 , external chest compression has proven as an efficient
     treatment due to cardiac arrest.
3.  In 1967 , epidemiological statistics have shown that most death
     occurred within the first hours due to myocardial infarction .


These discoveries and more were the corner stones
of  modern Emergency Medicine.

* The first pre-hospital successful CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation)
   was on Jan , 6 , 1960.
   The Resuscitation procedures were according to the guide-lines and
   techniques methods of Johns Hopkins Hospital , Baltimore , Maryland.
*  In 1973 , EMS & Paramedics Act was authorized by the American congress.
   185 million $ budget was spent to develop the districts EMS system.
*  In 1982 , there were more than 300 organization witch trained and
   operated paramedics units.*

In 1979 - The first Israeli paramedics course was born.
*  The Paramedic profession in Israel was established by Professor Nancy
    Caroline
(Dr. then) - The Chief Medical Director of MDA (Magen David
    Adom - the main and only EMS system in Israel)

*  The first Paramedics course and 2 more to follow were trained by
   
Professor Nancy Caroline & Dr. Stefan Landes. (In 1982 , during
    rescue mission , Dr. Landes and his helicopter's crew were killed) and
    lasted about 1 year.
*  Part of the 3 first Paramedic's courses was
EMT II course.
*  The first graduate EMT II in Israel was
Mr. Yair Maharshak (1980)
    & the first graduate Female EMT II was
Mrs.Neomi Zvi (Both instructors)
*  The first
Chief Paramedic (Paramedic Superviser) was Paramedic
    Doron Kotler
and the second was Paramedic Mordi Bitton (both
    graduated Paramedic's Course No 1).
*  The first two Paramedics Instructors in Israel were
Senior Paramedic
    Eli Nadler & Senior Paramedic Neomi Zvi
.
*  The Paramedics Text book was
"Emergency in the Street" - 1st Edition ,
    by Pro. Nancy Caroline that was translated into Hebrew - and was given
    to the students chapter by chapter and was attached by fabric tapes.
    All the written tests and quizzes were Caroline's hand writing.
    This 1st Edition text book was used till 1988. 
*  The first graduate paramedic student was the head of MDA Training
    Department -
Mr. Yair Maharshak - Paramedic No 001.
*  The First  two
female paramedics were Mrs. Neomi Zvi & Miss.
    Annat Danziger.
* In 1989 - the first "Senior Paramedic" training had started.
* In 1989 , the Paramedic's Course Text Book was changed to 4th Edition
    of Nancy's Book and new tests were written by the course's instructor -
    Paramedic Neomi Zvi and were updated in 1993 and 1994.
*  Since 1993 the Paramedic's training lasts about a year and a half -
    But no written Curriculum till these days.
*  In 1993 ,
The Israeli Paramedics Association was founded.
*  About 300 paramedics were trained in Israel within period of 20 years.
*  In 1997 - the 
B.EMS (Bachelor of Emergency Medical Sciences)
   
Academic training program for Paramedics was on its first year.
    It was established by the Israeli Paramedics Association at Ben-Gurion
    University.
