Roche holds court with the princess 24/11/99
Australias tennis princess, Jelena Dokic, has teamed up with Davis Cup Coach Tony Roche in preparation for the Australian Open in January. Dokics manager, McCurdy, revealed the Fairfield teenager had been practising with Roche since the US Open in September. The choice of Roche, regarded as one of the finest offensive and defensive specialists and in his time the best left handed volleyer in the business, is certain to make Dokics attacking game far more aggressive.
They practised at Tonys home recently before he left for the Davis Cup final against France. Their time in Sydney just happened to overlap so it was a good opportunity for Jelena to work with Tony. They will get together when Tony returns early next month. Jelena can benefit in many ways from Tony, who is one of the best coaches in the world and recognised for his solid net game and best backhand volley. - McCurdy, Jelenas Manager

Dokic Dismissed with the minimum of fuss
CONCHITA Martinez dashed Jelena Dokic's hopes of repeating her excellent Wimbledon performance by sending her out of Tokyo's Princess Cup in the first round on Wednesday Night.
The sixth seed from Spain, who needed three sets to beat the Australian in their first encounter last month in Toronto, took an early 4-0 lead in the first set and 4-1 in the second for a 6-3 6-2 victory.
"I've been practising well but it was just totally a different story in today's match," Dokic siad.
"There was quite a few errors that i made in the whole match. I just didn't feel confortable playing out there. I don't know if it was a bad day. When i was 2-1 down in the second set i had some chances to break but i didnt take my chances there.
It's probably a mistake. She's defenitley a tough player but it was also my game that wasn't at top."
Dokic needed some time to find the range and angle on her hard-hitting shots from the baseland but she was able to hold her service only twice in the whole match, falling victim to the tenacious Spaniard. Story By Leo Schilink Thursday, September 23, 1999 THE DAILY TELEGRAPH
