Our Pets
We have a few pets that are a part of our lives and we love them a lot.
Our Dogs
Cherokee
Cherokee is a Kelpie that joined our family during the summer of 1995 as a puppy.  We went to an auction with Nellis' family and they opened up a box full of puppies and put them out on the floor and gave them away for free.  I had to have Cherokee from the moment I saw her.

Cherokee has been a very good dog.  She loves children and is kind to them.  She loves to go for rides in the car and to go camping with us.  She also loves to visit my family.  She thinks she is a lap dog.  While we were living with my family she would run from the back door and leep from the entrance to the livingroom into my mom's lap where she was sitting in her rocker.

Cherokee thinks that cats are supposed to play with her and has a hard time understanding why our cats won't play with her.  We had a cat before that would play with her and so she thinks all cats are supposed to play with her.

Cherokee is scared of lightning and thunder and lets the cats push her around.  We have really enjoyed having her as part of our family.
Norman
Norman is a terrier mix.  He is a daddy's dog.  Nellis brought him home when he was helping out at the local pet store because he did not want him to be sent to the pound.  Norman has to follow Nellis everywhere he goes and wines if he leaves him.  He has a great personality and has been a lot of fun to have around.  He is about a year old and has a mohawk going down his back.
Our Cats
Harley
Harley is a mix cat that Nellis found as a kitten under a car at our apartments before his birthday in September 1999.  The apartment manager let him keep Harley without a deposit as a birthday present.  Harley is named after the Harley Davidsons.

Harley is a "momma's boy", unless I am not home or he is mad at me.  He likes to try to help me when I try to do my crafts.  When I cross-stitch, he sits on my lap and tries to catch the string as it goes up and down and has to put a paw on the material.

Harley is picky about who he will go to.  He has to get to know people before he will go to them and is not too sure about kids or our other pets.
Nala
Nala is our new cat.  She joined our family November 29, 2001.

Nellis' boss had asked him to take in an outdoor cat and her kitten back in October from a lady that he knows.  She would get the mother fixed and her shots before bringing her to us.  We were going out of town that weekend and she said she would call us on Sunday after we got back and bring her to us.  She never called, so we did not think they would be coming.  On November 29th, Nellis' boss called him to the office and said his cat was there for him to pick up.  He brought her home in a tiny pet carrier.  It was like she had been stuffed inside of this box, she is so big.

She was very nervous the first night, hiding under the couches and beds and biting.  We put her in the extra bathroom with a litter box and food and water dishes.  We checked on her before going to bed and she was being very loveable and cuddly.

She is now used to the cats enough that she can stay out of the bathroom and has learned to hide when the dogs come in.  Nellis is trying to make her an indoor cat.  So far it is working.

She loves to lay in all of Harley's favorite places, on the chairs under the kitchen table and on top of the linen cupboards in our bathroom.  She is very loveable and only bites when she is mad.  She has even been very good with the neighbor kids.

Nala is orange with long hair and is very furry.  Nellis says she looks like a lion and wanted to name her Simba (from Lion King).  I told him that is a boy's name, so we named her Nala after Simba's girlfriend.

Nala is a very funny cat.  She loves water.  When we have the water running in the bathroom sink she will put one of her front paws down in the sink and play with the water with her other paw.  She also likes to put her one paw in the water and drink the water as it runs over her paw.
