| Chapter 6 Dameon pulled into the parking lot of the forensics building and jumped out of his car. Racing through the double doors he was accosted by two men in uniform. Sir, where are you going? one of the men asked. He had dark skin, with grey-blue eyes and brown hair. Im Officer Dameon Redding. Kevin Jackson called me about a case Im on--- Dameon began. Youll need to get a visitors tag, the second man said pointing to the desk off to the right. This man was of Caucasian decent with sandy brown hair and light green eyes. Giving a sigh of relief, Dameon walked hurriedly to the reception desk. May I help you sir? the woman asked. She looked to be in her mid sixties with graying brown hair and soft ocean blue eyes. I need to see Kevin Jackson, Dameon said in a hurried tone. Of course. Just sign here, she said giving him a form and a pen. Dameon signed the form and quickly took his visitor tag. Having gotten through the annoying legalities he hurried off to the coroners quarters. Kevin met him as he rounded the corner. Dameon this way, Kevin said quickly as he pushed open a metal door. They walked into a science lab. I had some of specialists run some tests on the burns on her legs and we found something very interesting, Kevin said. What was it? Dameon questioned. Coffee. French Vanilla to be exact, Kevin replied. I dont see how that helps me. A lot of people drink French Vanilla coffee. Hell I drink French Vanilla coffee! Dameon yelled. Calm down, Kevin said. Theres more. We managed to extract the bullet from her stomach and--- the coroner began. And what! Dameon demanded. It came from a cop gun, he finished. Cop gun? Dameon said quietly to himself. His mind suddenly raced back to that morning when he had figured it had come from a handgun. Butif it came from a cops gunwhy would a cop Dameon mumbled in a very confused tone. Dameon are you ok? Kevin asked in a hushed voice. Yeah. Yeah Im ok. Look Kev, thanks, Dameon responded. He knew where he would find Karas killer. He just wasnt sure if he was going to be able to face them. He took a deep breath. Um. Ill show myself out. Thanks again Kev, Dameon said over his shoulder as he headed for the door. Dameon, Kevin called. Yeah, Dameon said turning around. Be careful. Dont do anything stupid ok, the coroner cautioned. Ok, Dameon said with a half smile. Dameon sauntered out of the lab room and headed for the buildings entrance so that he could return his tag. Well that was quick, the woman at the desk remarked. Yeah, the weary cop replied as he handed his tag to her. He walked to the doors and the two men in uniform stood up. You have a nice day sir, the said in unison. Thanks but dont count on it, Dameon said as he pushed his way past them and out the door. The sun was bright as he left the forensics building. He unlocked his car and got in. He put the keys in the ignition but didnt start the vehicle. He had to think. It cant be them. It makes no sense, he thought angrily to himself. Yes it can. Look at the evidence! his subconscious screamed at him. Yeah I know but I guess I just dont want to admit it, Dameon said the calm, still air around him. Deciding hed spent enough time sitting in the parking lot doing nothing, he put on his seatbelt and started the car. He put it in reverse and sped out of the lot towards the place he wanted to be at least. |
