VJ sets

Providing 3 to 6 hours of visual entertainment is no easy task. In VJingfor SubUnited we tried get away from the traditional, endlessly repeating shiny graphics loops, and develop a style which would reflect the music both in imagery and tempo. Our first attempts centred around using multiple overlapping images on slide film, thus ensuring whever there were recurring images, would be juxtaposed in entirely new combinations every time.

The overall effect was quite successful, however we constantly needed to create large volumes of new material for every performance and the process became unwieldy . As the events became bigger we moved on to video mixing, essentially using the same techniques with moving images as we had with static ones. The difference was that now it was possible to vary the dynamic of the set and for the first time create the semblence of a 'performance' which could move in step with the DJ's.

If you wait a bit the image above will animate...hopefully
