Wistful

wistful \Wist"ful\, a. [For wishful; perhaps influenced by wistly, which is probably corrupted from OE.
wisly certainly (from Icel. viss certain, akin to E. wit). See Wish.] 1. Longing; wishful; desirous.
"Lifting up one of my sashes, I cast many a wistful, melancholy look towards the sea." --Swift. --
"That he who there at such an hour hath been, Will wistful linger on that hallowed spot." --Byron. --

I thought my feelings were returned, evidently I was wrong.
You said you would be mine forever, or at least for so long...
As I really wanted you, but now that I can see,
This was not true, what you promised me - it was just a wistful dream.

I see the strength that was not there, otherwise it would endure.
These obstacles and hardships, for a bond that is so pure.
This familiar dead feeling, now once again in Hell.
Although we don't believe in it, now in these words I tell,

Perhaps I should not reveal, my deepest darkest fears...
For everytime they manifest, they burn into warm tears.
Your fledgling heart that cannot fly and join my own that's true,
Our favorite color, yours and mine - shall now return to blue.

You know inside I'm worthy of all your love and why,
Like the birds that drift up in the clouds, my hopes - they were so high.
Perhaps one day, so far along - when you finally see.
I might be there, I might not, adieu - so mote it be.

I ponder thoughts about your love, just how, and where, and why?
What did I wrong, in this time of last? - and with a baleful sigh,
I say that you could be with me, through good, and bad, and more...
But like the wise Poe raven, quoth the raven... "Nevermore."
