Trying to describe what shamanism is to most people is not only confusing, but it is next to impossible to describe the complete context of a shamans role in society(being that society past or present).Shamans in ancient times, were not only medicine men in charge of herbal healing, but they were spiritual leaders of the tribes as well.Their function within ancient societies was that of a light in a dark forest at night, giving direction to those who were lost on the path of lifes quest. They were the light holders when it came to spiritual matters. They were not only healers, but cunning warriors and wise strategist, who helped the leaders make choices based on the spiritual and natural world around them.

The following webpage is a wonderful webpage for uncovering and analyzing ones SPIRIT ANIMAL. Each person that walks on this planet has a spirit animal or animals contained within them. These spirit animals make up our core character and are a guardian and protector as we walk the many paths in this life. To know the man, one must understand the animal contained within. Know the animal, and you know the man.

Alot of shamans, and people who study shamanic ways use entheogenic substances to bring them into  hallucinagenic trances and altered states of mind.I hold degrees in botany and anthropology in the hopes that one day i will get my doctorate in medicinal anthropology or entheogenic shamanism.

Spiritquest is a more than the sum of it's parts. It is a workshop retreat that explores multi-disciplinary enthnobotany and it is offered in the Amazon rainbasin to instruct individuals in shamanic uses and ways of herbal healing. Spiritquest really looks like it would be not only educational, but exciting at the same time.I plan on attending before my 35th birthday.

Dr. Naxon runs a retreat in Belize. He heads the Center for Shamanism and Consciousness Studies. He is also the Director of the Central American Institute of Prehistoric and Traditional Cutlures, located in Belize.Dr. Nazon seems to be an excellent teacher from all the articles I have read. The gentleman is not only a scholar, but is a tool that should be utilized by anyone who is seriously following the shamanic path. This page is his new webpage that has alot to offer.
When people think of a shaman, the image that usually pops into their minds eye is the image of the Traditional Native American Indian Shaman. Indigenous tribes from all over the world have had shamans in there past. Shamanism has been called the mother of all religions, and many religions, even the dreaded religion christianity, shows evidence of shamanic roots.

For more information of other shamanic paths, I suggest using metacrawler or a good search engine to search out the other forms of shamanism. I tend to stick to traditional shamanism and neo-shamanic ways, but there is a vast sea of knowledge out there in regards to shamans from every culture spanning this planet we call home.

African medicine men,Aboriginal shamans,Celtic shamans, and the list goes on for miles. My path is not your path. We may share a common love and compassion for this form, but no two people walk the same path.I encourage all to look into the various forms of shamanic ways and chose a path that reflects your inner passions and desires.
