When I heard about this game, I just had to check it out. It got rave reviews from friends and from online gaming sites as well. After checking out the demo I downloaded I decided what the hey, lets give this a shot. Boy was I impressed. The game is a first person shooter as well as having a 3rd person application. For those of you not familar with 3rd person aspect, its not thru the eyes of the character, but rather a little behind him/her and above so u can see the character and what he/she is doing. This game is right up there with DOOM, QUAKE, and UNREAL TOURNY. I have played unreal tournament but have only watched others play Doom and Quake. I would have to say that JK2 is by far a good game. I was really impressed with the graphics and the storyline presented from LUCASARTS STUDIOS. I seldomly had any huge lag issues and to date the game has never frozen up on me or lagged so bad I had to restart my PC. The game is dynamic in approach. You can play the single missions, which are complex and which challenge you to discover new areas and new skills, or you can log into a arena for multiplayer functionality. U can also create your own arena and set down your own guildlines as to arena, weapons, etc. There is a capture the flag mode on the game which i find extremely challenging. The game is divided up into light and dark force powers. You can play dark or light side and each side has its own special attributes. Both sides have a wide range to choose from to make their custom characters shine. This game also has custom skins that you can use and it also has the ability for creation of your own skins. Along with that custom skins, custom lightsabers can be created and downloaded. There are several patches out for a variety of weapons, characters, skins, arena, and odds and ends. I am sure if you search online and talk to other players in game they can give you the URL's for these sites. As we all know LUCASARTS STUDIOS does not release games that are half done. This game is a pure adrenaline rush. If shooting isn't your STAR WARS dealio, then try the light saber and force powers. I absolutely love the fact that I can use a light saber and force powers in the game. In Battlefront and Battlefront 2, there are force powers but u are limited to them and the manuevers your jedi or sith lord can do with them. I find this lightsaber combination in JK2 to outshine the later developed games like BF and BF2. But thats just me and my opinion. If you are an avid STAR WARS fan than this game is a must have. Most of the gamers and clans i have interfaced with online in this game are well run and the people tend to be extremely helpful in all areas of this game. I have yet to really meet anyone on this game that is a total fool. That says alot doesn't it? This game also has a tracking IP feature. If I am online and you want to find me all you have to do is type in my IP, and the directory will find what arena I am in and report it back to you. Kewl functionality on LUCASARTS STUDIOS part I think. I mean, I have played other games where arenas have been full, or there are so many arenas, finding clan mates has been next to impossible. With this IP tracker it is a joy to be able to punch in the numbers and find them quickly. All in all I loved this game. I do not play it all that much anymore, but on occations I still play it. It is a star wars dream come true. CHECK IT OUT. |
| CLICK on the icon to the left to be taken to a site for team combat ladders. TWL or Teamwarefare League is one of the best sites I have visted for online 1st person shooters and other games. You do not have to be in a clan to play team ladder combat, but it does help alot. There are hundreds of games they support and play and their forums are extremely helpful for interfacing with other players in all the games they play. If you are a online multiplayer fanatic, please check this out I can almost garauntee you will not be disappointed. |

I have loved the movies since I was a kid and once LUCASARTS STUDIOS decided to move forward and hit the ground running with new games, I have been like a kid in the candy store ever since. I am extremely impressed with most of what has come out of LUCAS ARTS STUDIO over the past years. Some of the games like Knights of the Old Republic I didn't care for, but thats just me. You folks may enjoy them. BF is a game that combines first and third person shooter applications. It also is an attempt from LUCAS ARTS, to add in ground assault weapons, along with space ships and other craft. All In all I love this game. I am NOT to happy with the mouse effect when using the ships and other various crafts as I prefer a joystick when playing any kind of space sim. The graphics in this game kick a$$. I mean at various points in the game I actually felt like I was in a movie. I am extremely impressed with the smoothness of the game as well. I hardly ever have issues with lag or getting booted from the servers. That is always a huge bonus when one plays FPS. The characters are typical Star Wars characters. You can play either Rebels, Imperial troops, Federation, or Republic troops. All are evenly matched with weapons and characters. Each side has the same characters. Snipers on all sides, heavy weapons and rocket launchers, etc. The various ground assualt vehicles makes for a really fast paced game. As I said, i am less then happy that the space ships in this game use a mouse and not a joystick, but they fixed that when they released Battlefront 2. So I am happy once again.....LOL... All in all this is a great game. I feel that it has a huge following and I am all and all impressed with how it was constructed and how it plays. If you are a Star Wars freak you will love this. Granted ever since BF2 came out, i havnt played this, but that tends to happen when a corporation releases and expansion or a new game. I prefer Battlefront 2 over Battlefront, but thats my preference due to the issue of joystick over mouse controls. In BF2 you can use a joystick for space battles. The space scenario is not even a possibility with BF, its simply not programed in. I would recommend this for anyone that has never played a FPS game as it is a good introduction to first person shooter games. Also, please be made aware that there are a variety of patches out for this game. I am sure Lucas Arts has them on their main site. |

One was that you could not play a jedi all the time, it was a bonus you recieved for kills. Another issue was that BF had really stupid and predictable NPC's. I mean if I am a sniper and I know exactly where a drone is going to be and then stops, whats the fun in shooting fish in a barrell. They fixed that in BF2. The NPC's are a little more random in their movements and they are a little more intelligent in how they acheive their goals. This game is totally different than BF, but at the same time it has alot in common with it. U can play space arena, which is all space ships and capital ships. You can play all factions in the Star Wars universe. You can play Instant action games, solo player games, or online multiplayer games. Personally I like playing the hybrid side of the space game. In this you start off as a player character. You then either run to a ship, and go, you can stay and defend the ship from onbard raiding parties, you can take a gunners chair and help blast inbound enemy ships, or you can repair critical damaged systems on the capital ship where you are. This game is extremely diverse in its approach and is by far one of my favorite LAS games out today. I have downloaded demos of other LAS games, but this one is my primary game I play these days. I still play JK2 on occation, but not as often as I plat this. I tend to like this due to its diversity in nature and the fact that its a hybrid game that combines alot of different aspects of nline multiplaying drama. As I mentioned elsewhere on my sim page, I am not pleased that Star Wars ships bank in space. I know why LAS programmed that in. It is due to the fact that ships in the movie bank like typical lower atmosphere fighters. I mean this isn't Battlestar Galactica or Babylon 5, where those ships used thrusters to bank and turn after all. I really wish this game had those slides and thruster motions, but all in all its still a magnificant game to play. Out of all the Star Wars games out there, this is the one you seriously have to consider investing in. The servers are huge and the game is well programmed. I have little to no issues in dog fights with lag or disconnects. BONUS..... lol... If you are a Sci - fi nut, then this is a must have for your PC, Xbox, Gamecube or whatever system you play on. I personally play on a PC due to the joystick interface, but I know that there are others out there that play with controllers on off the store systems like Xbox. I have an addicted personality to begin with and a gaming console would probably make me the biggest slug on the planet. At least with a PC game i can multitask and do other things on the side when I am not glued in my pilots chair... Happygaming folks and remember ITS ONLY A GAME, and that you shouldn't play video games for hours and hours and hours on end. It is a source of entertainment, it isn't your life....lol. |
| In conclusion, there are thousands of FPS games out there. I tend to stick to the Star Wars universe as I love it, but please explore all the other great games that are out there. I know people that love to play Band of Brothers, Unreal tourny, Quake, Doom, and the countless other games that are out there. Just because I dont personally play Halo 4 doesn't mean I won't in the future. I like the games I play, I have interest in them, and with Lucas Arts Studios I know that I am getting quality games for a reasonable price. I highly recommend that if you are a FPS addict, that you download the demo before you purchase the game in a store or online. I made a mistake once and took a friends word that Half Life 2 was a good game, so I bought it and ended up playing it once and never doing so again. I learned from that expensive lesson, please take heed when buying games off the shelf as you may find you do not like what you purchased...Enjoy. |
