The Webskin Lizard 4400 offers high capacity, high performance and flexibility required for network attached storage. Lizard includes Lizard-X engine technology designed in to the Data-Skin architecture to speed and simplify the system backup. The Lizard-X engines steam blocks of data from disk to tape or node to node for extremely rapid image backup, or at the file level, radically increases the speed of file by file backup. Full NDMP standard support allows users to leverage the Lizard's Lizard-X engines for outstanding performance and seamless integration with best-of-breed storage management solutions. A fast LizardOS microkernel is the heart of the Webskin Lizard 4400. This kernel has been designed for optimal performance of network as well as storage components. The storage processor encompasses various RAID5 modules that are fault-tolerant and can withstand loss of access to a drive out of a maximum of eight drives in an array. This provides 99.99 percent uptime of the storage component. Also, multiple arrays can be mirrored at a higher layer called virtual partition layer which provides an ultimate data protection feature. In the networking backplane module, various network interface cards are supported so that ethernet, ATM, fast ethernet etc are supported. The server is bilingual in nature in that it serves the filesystem files over NT as well as UNIX. NFS is supported in UNIX and CIFS is used for NT clients.
