The lake the hotel is on connects to a canal at two sides, to the West descending through low hill country, to the East providing a channel to the sea and irrigating the surrounding farmland. Some two hundred metres down this Eastern channel is a most unusual locke, the only one of its kind in fact and, as such, a historical monument protected by the French Tourism Authority, though its uniqueness derives largely from the fact that its design represents a feat of engineering that is hugely impractical.
