US TAC MOD review
First of all I must confess that I really don't like mods that much.
Most of the mods do little else than add a million new guns to a
game that already has so many. My usual problem is that the
makers tend to make the aiming WAY to easy, and thus giving
RS a little too much Quake feel. We saw it in the otherwise very
good WWII mod with the tommygun. But a couple of days ago
I saw that the US TAC MOD had arrived, and after reading about
it I decided to download it. It's pretty large, 26 MB in all. I've
been playing it pretty much since then.

The US TAC MOD not only offers new weapons, but also uniforms,
wound textures and a lot of other things. The new weapon models
are stunningly beautiful, as are the uniforms. (My favorite is the
DEA)

If you click the picture you'll notice the
AMAZING weapon model. Everything
looks really sweet.

...Also be sure to check this model.

Some of the weapons have flashlights attached to them. The
lightbeam is done pretty nice, good idea to implement that.
I really can't say the same about the laser dot target, it looks
totally out of place. However, I think they did it for fun.

Here we have a pic
of a frantic firefight
in the small map,
Store Back. Look
closely at the cool
uniforms.

In my humble opinion they actually outdid the graphics from
the original game by FAR.
Check this picture of some
really polished boots. And
see how nice they're tied.

The weapons are many, and all of them are extremely well
made. Great idea to offer anti-terror teams the ability to
use a stinger missile ! It's great fun to take out a small
shack with. Of course it's not a weapon you'll use 'for real'
in a multiplayer game.

                                    Another screenshot of a
                                    DEA agent ready for
                                    action.

                                                   ...And another

                                       Headshot. Works every time??

Take it from a guy who doesn't really like mods; this is
the best thing that has happened to ROGUE SPEAR in
a very long time. When I played this the first time, I
had a hard time making sense of the long wait for
BLACK THORN.

I give it 5 out of 5

Mod review update:               10/16 - 2001

After playing US TAC for more than 40+ hours, about half being
multiplayer with my brother, I will allow myself to point out a few
things that I think needs attention. The Ingram MAC 11 is too
good a weapon. I think that the makers should tone down the aim
ability and cancel the 'zoom' function. It's simply too good a gun
even at long distances. The General Electric super-gun should be
taken out completely. I can see that the makers have chosen to
make US TAC a sub-machine and short-gun oriented mod, and
this is OK regarding the theme. However a normal rifle or carbine
SHOULD be able to outperform the subs, when moving outdoors.
But still, these are minor problems(for me) regarding the amazing
work and talent we have seen here. Remember, Redstorm made
the same mistakes(PDW, anyone?).

I want to thank all the RS mod-makers for spending so much of
their time making 'add-ons' like this.

Mod Review update:             10/19 - 2001

I've played US TAC on the Zone with about 6-7 others. Works
like a charm. Anti-tank rockets flew to the left and right, guns
buzzing and the wound textures really adds something. Without
being too violent. Some of the best online gaming I've had in a
long time. Look right for some pics. Oh, come on...They're ok,
right?
