Project Boat
We decided to buy a boat for the girls this summer. A nice project boat, a 1968 Columbia 22.  We will have a lot of fun restoring her. The Kids have named her
"Gentian"  my late mom's favorite flower.
left:  When we got the boat,  the floorboard covering the keel bolts was battleship grey as were many other parts. It was also a bit warped.
right: The new floorboard was made using a birch ply core with red oak and poplar strips glued in using gorilla glue. Sanded smooth and cut away on the bottom for fit, the whole unit was soaked in a solution of west epoxy and xylene. The solution cures soaked into the cell structure of the
wood making it completely waterproof. This technique allows the use of non traditional woods in marine settings.
