Continued: The Puppy Princess
Book#1 in The Puppy Princess Series
Scared, Marilyn runs to the back of her cage and curls up in a ball.  She buries her head underneath her tail and shuts her eyes tightly.  She holds her breath as she waits for the strangers to leave.

She hears them talking.

"Look how pretty she is," the young woman exclaims.

"Pretty shy.  I want one that is playful," the man says as he tugs on his wife's arm to move farther down the line.

King Tut breaks the momentary silence.

"Excuse me, sir, I can most certainly attest to her playfulness," King Tut says as the couple walks away. "Sir? Madam?"

Oh well, King Tut thinks.  They weren't quite what I was looking for anyway.

Marilyn is still curled up like a ball holding her breath.

"Marilyn?  Hey!  Hey, you alive over there?  You don't look like you're breathing! Marilyn?"

King Tut looks thoughtfully at Marilyn.

Both King Tut's and Marilyn's ears jet straight up.  The food attendant is coming around with the food cart.  The familiar squeakiness of the wheels can just be heard coming up the aisle.

Both their noses go high in the air as the chicken and beef aroma that floats through the air comes closer and closer.

Marilyn sits up and moves to the front of her cage after checking that the coast was clear.  Only the food cart man was in sight.  Marilyn lays down and stares dreamily down the aisle.

King Tut wags his tail as the food cart man hands him his dish.  King Tut thanks the man, and settles in to eating his gourmet lunch.

"Can you come back say around fourish?" King Tut says as the food cart man walks off.

Marilyn licks her lips as the food cart man sets her dish full of mashed chicken, liver, and beef in front of her.  As soon as he walks away, she digs in.
