Continued: The Puppy Princess
Book#1 in The Puppy Princess Series
Marilyn can't wait to get back to the yard to tell Teeter and Totter about her exciting ride in the bright red bug.

The car slows down and comes to a stop in front of a big gray building.  Her owner gets out and opens the backdoor for Marilyn to get out.  Her owner leads Marilyn around the side of the building and through a doorway.

Marilyn pauses in the doorway to sniff and her owner tugs on her leash and pulls her inside the building.  Marilyn looks up and sees that her owner is talking to the lady on the other side of the counter.  The lady on the other side of the counter has a big white smile, long, wavy brown hair, and bright red lipstick that looked like it came off her owner's red bug outside.

Marilyn starts sniffing and she smells many other puppies here.  She wags her tail in excitement.  Maybe she, too, will get a friend to bring home.

The red lipstick lady comes around from the other side of the counter and walks up to Marilyn.  Marilyn ducks down as the lady tries to pat her head.

"It's okay, Marilyn."

The red lipstick lady gently tugs on her leash pulling her away from her owner's side.  Marilyn firmly plants her front paws into the white tile floor so as not to budge an inch without her owner.

The lady again tries to gently tug on Marilyn's leash.  Marilyn turns her head to glance at her owner for a sign of approval and her owner is not there.  Marilyn whips her head around and looks out the swinging door and she sees the bright red bug drive off.

Marilyn is confused and isn't sure what she should do.

The lady leans over and tells her it will be okay, that we're going to find you a new home.

"I don't want anything new!  Please just take me home!" Marilyn exclaims as she pictures her friends Teeter and Totter and her safe spot in the back corner of the yard.

"This will all be for the best, I promise," the lady says gently.

This time when her leash is tugged on, Marilyn reluctantly follows.  With her head hanging down, her wet nose dragging the floor,  Marilyn is full of sadness.  Where did her owner go?
