The Puppy Princess
Book#1 in The Puppy Princess Series
Once upon a time, there was a pretty, yellow Labrador retriever named Marilyn.

She was tied to a stick at the darkest, scariest corner of her owner's backyard.  Marilyn only saw her owner once a day when she brought food and Marilyn begged her owner to stay with her in the dark corner.  Her owner never did.

The dark corner was very scary at night, even more scarier when a storm came in.  The thunder was so loud it hurt Marilyn's little ears, and there was nowhere for her to take shelter.  She curled up in a ball and hid best she could in the shadows of the dark corner of the yard.

Sometimes on a clear day, she would talk through the fence to Teeter, the puppy next door.  Teeter was a slick, black wiener dog with a high-pitched voice.

One day Marilyn asked Teeter, "What is my purpose?"

Teeter squealed and replied, "To love and be loved."

"How do I know if I'm loved?" Marilyn asks.

"You just know," says Teeter as he squeals away excitedly.

"What is it Teeter?" Marilyn asks wondering what all the excitement is.  Then she hears a strange new bark coming from Teeter's yard.

"Marilyn!" Teeter exclaims, "I got a new friend!"

"She looks just like me, except she's a caramel color!  Her name is Totter!"

"Wow!  We're going to have so much fun together, we can play all the time!  See you later, Marilyn!" Teeter says excitedly.

Teeter and Totter go inside and Marilyn hears their backdoor close.

The next day Marilyn is awoken early.  She looks for her food and sees none.  Her owner is standing in front of her and motions for Marilyn to follow.  Her owner leads her to a bright, cherry red, Volkswagen bug.  Marilyn hops into the backseat and sits up smiling.  The plush, red interior feels good to Marilyn, much nicer and cozier than laying on the cold dirt in the backyard.

Marilyn has never been in a car before and watches out the window as things pass by.  She sees many things she has never seen before.  A great big Oak tree, a yellow school bus with all the kids waving at her, and a big giraffe overhanging the zoo's fence.
