HAITIAN DIASPORA SOCCER CUP 2000

Haiti's Champion athletes

On the occasion of Sport Passion 15th anniversary, you the fans were cordially invited via this internet web page to attend the first Haitian diaspora cup, which was held for the first time in Florida on Saturday, November 25th and Sunday, November 26th, 2000 at F.I.U. (Florida International University) stadium North Campus, 151st street, in North Miami, Florida. Once again the Haitian community came out in large numbers to support this initiative. Some came from Haiti, such as the reporters of Radio Galaxie, Radio Vision 2000 and Radyo Ginen with the purpose of relaying the event live to Haiti. Some fans came from New York, New Jersey, Montreal. It was also worth noting the presence of the American General Manager of the Miami Fusion soccer club, who was present at the press conference and the soccer game as a gesture of goodwill in his quest of qualified Haitian soccer players capable to perform at major league soccer level during the upcoming season.

Present was also the Brazilian organizer of Brazil Copa Sambola of Pompano. Score of men and Haitian women from all walk of life help made this event a success. Few highlights of this memorable Diaspora cup are here on this web page for you to enjoy and reminisce about the good old time of soccer yesteryear in our homeland Haiti, when the Haitian national team was one of the best in the Caribbean.

The love for the sport is still in most Haitian hearts and the desire to redeem ourself as a nation of proud citizen is still in our mind and within our reach, if we use small example as Diaspora Cup 2000 to duplicate, improve and do better. If we can use the same sense of urgency and a spirit of common goal, we will be surprised how much we can accomplish, even with so little mean. Vision, leadership, honesty and a sense of purpose with the will to succeed, can take us to a level, where we can be proud of our deeds for the betterment and promotion of our nation, Haiti and the diaspora community in which we reside all over the world.

COUPE DIAPORA 2000 CONFERENCE DE PRESSE

Friday, November 24th, 7PM to 9PM at Aspira, 13300 Memorial Hgwy in North Miami: the Press conference that should have been led by the new President of the Haitian Federation of Football, Dr. Yves Jean Bart (alias Dadou) on the role of the Haitian diaspora partcipation in Haiti's soccer program and its outcome, took place as planned, but was led by Raymond, who gave a summary account of what Dr. Jean Bart had said while in Haiti, via wireless phone to an earlier Haitian creole Miami radio talk show interview "Carrefour" of Alex Saint Surin on (WLQY), since Dadou (Dr. Jean Bart) had to stay in Haiti to meet with the President of FIFA, Joseph S. Blatter of Switzerland, Michel Platini of France and Jack Warner the President of CONCACAF and Vice-President of FIFA.

At the microphone: Haitian activist and humanitarian, Camille Merilus, alias Sauve' Zye' (very active and helpful to the community, although he is legally blind) calling for Haitian solidarity and support to help Haiti succeed healthwise, sportwise and ecomically during Diaspora Cup press conference at Aspira.

It was a lively moment where different speakers honored with their words Zenono and the entire team of Sport Passion. It was a time to recognize some of the past great Haitian soccer legends such as Alex Timmer, Ti Nazaire, Tacho Eliazard (the new Haitian soccer national coach). It was also the time to mention the accomplishment of Haitian women in sports such as International volleyball and to celebrate the recent victory of the Haitian women soccer team, which has just been crowned as the Champion of the Caribbean and by so doing, qualified for the US women Gold Cup of 2001.
