Haitian National team star player Sebastien Vorbes (Galaxy # 26 midfielder) confering with a fellow Haitian friend/fan, after he was retired from the game after scoring one of the most oustanding goal in his professional career with the Los Angeles Galaxy. A dream that came true when he was recognized for his God given talents and was granted the contract as a haitian to play in an American Major League Soccer team all the way in California. Meanwhile he was here doing his best in Florida for the Haitian local team. MLS local team like the Miami Fusion never gave him the opportunity. It is the same situation for a number of talented Haitian athletes, who never get the opportunity to make it big in the money making sport team franchise, although their talents and their polularity are widely recognized as a viable business decision to attract a multitude of Haitian fans, who always come out in large number. They often come out to support their team, even in places where they know that they are not entirely welcomed, for obvious reasons that most of us have been aware of for much too long.

always a part of the action, Galaxy # 13 midfielder/foward, Coby Jones (member of the USA national team). Other famous Sebatien team-mate on the field, was the Mexican soccer superstar, Luis Hernandez (El matador, a member of the Mexican National Team) Galaxy # 15. Just like Sebastien, they were all part of the colorful action of unity in diversity and mutual respect that most of us strive for in the sport of soccer.

Players of the Haitian National team (#11 Golman Pierre and others)mingling with the crowd, while they watch one of their own in soccer action, old team mate Sebastien Vorbe, currently #26 midfielder of the Galaxy of Los Angeles. Sebastien played for the first time in Florida as a Major League Soccer player against the Miami Fusion at the Lockart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Saturday, July 8th, 2000.

Penality kick missed by the Miami Fusion against the Galaxy of Los Angeles in an opportune time. Galaxy of Los Angeles California won by a score of 5-3 against the Miami Fusion of Florida in a highly contested game, where Galaxy dominated the first half and Fusion made a descent come-back in the second half, but not enough to make up for the goals deficit.

It was also a proud moment for all Haitian to witness as their national flag occupied center stage on the giant screen of the Lockart stadium of Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Saturday, July 8th, 2000. A minute moment for celebration during the line up of the Haitian national team in red and blue and the Jamaican team, Hazard in white with black stripes.

During the second game, the Haitian national team they defeated team Hazard of Jamaica 1-0, in a midly disputed friendly game of occasion to provide some entertainement for the Haitian community in the Haitian diaspora of Miami (Dade county), Fort Lauderdale (Broward county) and West Palm Beach (Palm Beach county).

The head coach of the Haitian national team, Emanuel Sanon was also there to watch Sebastien Vorbes. He also took the opportunity to acknowledge publucly that his dream of qualifying his team to Japan/Korea world Cup 2002 was not materialized due to reason beyond his control, hwn I asked him the pertinent question.

The Haitian soccer fan in general had very little to celebrate for the year 2000 in the world of soccer. However for those of us who braved the rain and threatening thunderstorm to attend the double hitter, It was truly and joyous moment to see Sebastien Vorbes realizing his dream of not only playing in the MLS but also scoring one of the winning goal against the Miami Fusion, who had all the opportunities to hire him as one of their player, while he was living with the rest of the Haitian diaspora in South Florida. It was great to see the example of his team-mates of the Haitian national team, who were there in the stand like everyone else to savor the moment of watching him play at a level that most of them aspire to do or who knows? Even better if they try harder and if credit is given where credit is due. For the lack of deserving recognition and proper compensation have been the elusive dream for most Haitians, who have often given their best at what they do best, without often realizing a much deserved honest profit as a return on their dedicated and unselfished energetic physical investment to entertain us all and promote the nation of Haiti.
