Apprentice

What you learn...

As an apprentice in the WoodCraft, you are exposed to all areas of WoodCrafting. Apprentices will attend classes and lectures given by higher ranked crafters in each subcraft. This way, you will learn all the basics of WoodCrafting, enough so that you can function in each subcraft capacity when out at your posting. Through this exposure, you will find where your skills and interests lie, so that when you become a Senior Apprentice, you can choose your SubCraft and begin concentrating on that area.

Daily Routine...

The average day of an Apprentice is one of near-constant motion. After breakfast, apprentices will be attending classes all morning. After lunch, they spend their time on assigned chores and class projects. In the evening, apprentices will do one of several activities, depending on their current lessons. Some continue work on assigned projects, others attend additional lectures, run errands for their mentors, or other assigned duties. At least once a sevenday, the apprentice will have a full evening free to pursue their own interests.

Rules

Apprentices of the WoodCraft are expected to follow these rules:
  1. IC'ly, Apprentices rarely leave the hall. They are too young and too busy to be running all over Pern. However, being a game where RP is a main reason for being here, we allow apprentices to find RP in other areas of the game. We only ask that you limit your time away from the hall as much as possible, and that if you leave, you have a good IC excuse for being away. (And expect Malia to be IC'ly upset and pick on you over the knot if she catches you away from the hall)
  2. Apprentices must not set themselves UNFINDABLE.
  3. All commissions MUST be approved by your mentor, or a WoodCraft Master BEFORE it is delivered to your customer. Merely +cc'ing a Master in a +mail of your commission desc to a customer is not enough. A Master MUST put a "WoodCraft Seal of Approval" on your commission before it is seen by your customer.
  4. You may NOT lock your room. That is, you may not lock the exits to and from your room. Apprentices, while they have the privacy of their own room, are also carefully supervised. IC'ly the doors do not come with locks on them.

Setting up your Apprentice Character...

There are several things you will want to do once you become an apprentice of the WoodCraft.
  1. Alter your description. You may want to be wearing clothes that can take the wear and tear of an apprentice's life. Remember, most of your time is spent doing chores and working on projects. This is the 'WoodCraft', which means a lot of the projects will make you dirty. Tools tend to rip clothing, paint and stains tend to stain. Your clothes should not be fancy...generally trousers and a tunic (girls and boys) and sturdy boots. Liven them up with patches, rips, stains. Also remember that you are basically poor as an Apprentice. We provide you with clothing...but it makes for more fun and believable RP if you get your clothes messed up! You should also be wearing a green and white WoodCraft Apprentice knot on your shoulder. This reflects your status with the craft, and should be worn proudly.
  2. Change your &pos. Example: &pos me=WoodCraft Jr. Apprentice
  3. Set in your @aconnect to scan the WoodCraft +bboard, check mail, and even set your @doing if you so desire. Example: @aconnect me=+skim unread;+bbscan/woo new;@doing me=WoodCraft Jr. Apprentice!
  4. Become familiar with the knot system. More help can be found in +help knots
  5. Become familiar with the layout of the WoodCraft Hall itself. Feel free to explore all of our public rooms.
