Ranks and Requirements

 

Thank you to my Craftsecond, Qinan, and my Apprentice Master, Lyxia...and to everyone else in the craft for their ideas and suggestions that have helped in forming these promotion requirements and responsibilities!

Note: "Time" indicates how much time should be spent at MINIMUM in the rank. "OOC" represents any out of character responsibilities of that rank (or things you take with you even when you sign off the MUSH). "IC" presents a general description of what one does as a woodsmith of that rank. "Advancement" lists what we (Malia, Qinan and Lyxia) would like to see you do before you reach the next rank.

Junior Apprentice

Time: 2 RL weeks

OOC: None

IC: Being a Jr. Apprentice is a time to get settled into the WoodCraft Hall. You should get to know the layout of the area and meet your fellow apprentices. Get to know how the hall is run, and enjoy fun bits of RP. You will be assigned a Mentor, but are under the main guidance of the Apprentice Master.

Advancement:

  1. Read through +lhelp
  2. Set up your room. This includes a desc of your room and both exits, and setting the @succ, @osucc and @drop messages to pass +check


Apprentice

Time: 3 RL Months

OOC: None

IC: As an apprentice of the WoodCraft, you are here to learn the basic skills of working with wood. Your day will be full of classes, lectures, chores and other duties as assigned.

Advancement:

  1. Attend a class
  2. Visit the 'Woody Webpage'. (That part was easy, huh?)
  3. Man the Woodsmith Gather Tent for a cumulative total of 2 hours
  4. RP with a WoodCraft Master on anything WoodCraft related, or participate in a WoodCraft TP
  5. @create a unique object which passes +check
  6. Submit a desc for the tent to Master Dione


Senior Apprentice

Time: 3 RL months

OOC: May represent craft away from the hall

IC: An apprentice walks the table to Senior once they have learned the basics of each subcraft of the WoodCraft. The rank of Sr. Apprentice is meant to ease the transition of life in the hall to life outside of the hall, and to increase the skills necessary for advancement in the apprentice's chosen field of study. Having had a taste of all of the subcrafts, a Sr. Apprentice will find that one or two subcrafts appeal to him or her, and will therefore choose one subcraft to specialize in. Less time is spent on chores, and more time is spent studying and refining those skills. A Sr. may also find him or herself posted away from the hall for a short period of time...and will find that he or she is sent away from the hall on errands more and more.

Advancement:

  1. Man the Woodsmith Gather Tent for another cumulative 2 hours
  2. Create another description to go into the tent
  3. Choose your subcraft
  4. @create another unique and more complex object, using at least one ($) command


Note: Advancement through the ranks is decided on a case by case basis. Not everyone who has been promoted has completed each and every single requirement. We do ask that these be completed...because we feel these skills will help you both IC'ly and OOC'ly as you develop your woodsmith character. However, we do take into consideration other things when we promote...including the most important one...activity. We also realize that completing some of the requirements depends on others (such as attending classes, participating in TP's, manning the tent at a gather). We know that these things aren't always available for you to participate in. We also realize your online schedule doesn't always coincide with online events. We do try to be as fair as humanly possible when promoting.

Also note that the more you keep the three of us up to date with your characters progress, the easier it is for us to determine when you're ready to be promoted. We can't promote if we don't know that you're actually doing anything. We enjoy little update +mail's...and greatly encourage them!
