Chapter 12
*Friday Morning*

Sarah and Nick arrived early at the doctor's office. They were in and out in the matter of an hour. The doctor told them that they were going to have a baby boy. The two were ecstatic. They even got the first picture.
"I can't believe it. We're going to have a boy." Sarah said. "This is so great. That way when I have my girl, she'll have a big brother."
Nick laughed. "Now you have to tell her parents."
Sarah knew she would be dreading the moment. All the happiness drained from her face. "I know."
"When do you wanna tell them?" Nick asked.
"How about never?" Sarah suggested.
"Sarah...." Nick warned.
"Okay, okay. I'll tell them when I head home, okay? That means be at my place at seven." Sarah said.
"Oh this should be interesting." Nick said.
"I can only imagine what will happen when I tell them." Sarah said.

Nick dropped her off at Kevin's and they kissed each other bye. Sarah walked into the house greeted by Kristin coming out of the living room.
"You don't look happy." Kristin said.
"I'm not." Sarah said.
"Why?" she asked.
"Well I am happy about having a boy, but now I have to tell my parents. I made a wager with Nick that if it was a boy we would tell them and if it was a girl let it go." Sarah told her.
"What a wager. Well maybe it's a good thing god gave you a boy. They'll either accept it or won't." Kristin said.
"Anyways, I'm gonna call mom and tell her that I have company coming over." Sarah said.
Sarah sat down on the couch. "If only my life were simpler."
"We only wish." Kristin said sitting down next to her.
Sarah phoned Linda and told her that she would be home in the afternoon and that she was having company coming for dinner. She took a deep breath after getting off the phone.
"I hope this doesn't blow up in my face." Sarah said.
"It won't. Just take one step at a time." Kristin said.

*7 PM*

Sarah saw Nick pull up outside. Jennifer had invited Howie over just so it wouldn't be awkward. Her parents had taken a liking to him and didn't mind her dating him at all. On the other hand, Sarah could only imagine the looks on her parents faces when she told them the truth. Nick got out of his Durango wearing dress pants and shirt. He looked sexy to Sarah. She opened the door and let him in. Linda and Mitch came into the foyer.
"What's he doing here?" Mitch asked.
"This is who I asked to dinner. I hope you don't mind." Sarah said.
"No we don't mind, sweetie. Come into the dining room. Dinner is ready." Linda said.
Linda and Mitch sat at the head of table while Jennifer and Howie were to the right side and Sarah and Nick to the left side. Sarah sat next to her father, so Nick wouldn't get stared down. Linda started making conversation with Nick.
"So Nick I hear you're in the group like Howie?" she asked.
"Yes ma'am." Nick said.
"How long have you been in the group?" Linda asked.
"11 years. I love what I do." he said. "It's an awesome job. I can't ask for anything more."
"Your job keeps you away a lot?" Mitch asked.
"Yes it does, but that doesn't mean I won't love your daughter any less than I already do." he said.
"A lot of girls throw themselves at you?" Mitch asked.
"Dad." Sarah said with warning in her voice.
"It's okay, Sarah. Yes they do sir. Some crazy ones out there, but it's not in my nature to cheat on any girl that I am dating at the time." Nick said.
Sarah was amazed that he was answering all their questions with politeness.
"How would I know that?" Mitch asked. "I've seen a lot of girls get hurt out there because their rock 'n' roll boyfriends cheat on them with these groupies."
"Daddy, stop it. Now." Sarah said not wanting to take anymore. "Nick loves me and I love him. Get used to it."
"I'm just trying to look out for you, Sarah. Can't I do that?" he asked.
"Yes. But that doesn't mean you get to pick who I date and who I don't. Now knock it off with these absurd questions." Sarah said putting her foot down.
Mitch stayed quiet. Sarah was kind of proud of her herself. She stood up to her father for once. Everyone made little conversation and finished dinner. They moved into the living room. Sarah was getting the courage to tell everyone her news.
"Well I have an announcement to make. Well we both do." Sarah said.
They all got quiet. She held onto Nick's hand nervously.
"What is it dear?" Linda asked.
"I'm just gonna come right out and say this." She started. "It's my life and I will have it the way I want it. Understand?"
"Yes dear. Now what is it?" Linda asked.
"I'm going to have a baby." Sarah said happily.
Mitch and Linda were shocked along with Howie. Jennifer was there for moral support and knew.
"What?!" Mitch yelled. "You're only 21. You are to young to have a baby!"
"Dad I want to have a baby. I'm capable to have one." Sarah said.
"When did this happen?" Linda asked.
"About 4 months ago. I found out right after Nick told me he didn't want to see me anymore." Sarah said.
"Nick's the father?" Linda asked.
"Yes." Sarah said.
"How do we know that? How do we know you weren't banging some other guy like some slut?" Mitch asked angrily.
"I wasn't!" Sarah yelled.
"She's not a slut!" Nick intervened. "It was me! I'm the father! So if you something to say, say it! But don't ever call Sarah that in my presence."
"Stay out of this!" Mitch yelled. "You stupid bastard!"
Nick stood up and Sarah immediately grabbed his arm. She pushed him out of the room and out to the front porch.
"Stay there." Sarah said as she went back into the house.
"You had no right to call him that!" Sarah yelled.
"I don't want him or his child in this house!" Mitch yelled.
Sarah was hurt. Her mother kept quiet and Jennifer & Howie walked away from it.
"You would deny your own grandchild because of him?" Sarah asked.
"Yes!" Mitch said angrily.
"Fine. If you deny him and his child, then you deny me!" Sarah yelled. "I hope you rot in hell!"
"Don't you talk to like that!" Mitch said. "I am still your father!"
Sarah stopped at the door and turned to look at him. "No you aren't. You are just someone who gave my mother a child. That's it! I am not your daughter anymore. Good riddance to you!"
She then walked out the door. She felt awful, but he had, had it coming. Nick stood there and hugged her. The two walked to his car. She couldn't believe it all blew up in her face.
"It will be okay." Nick said. "It will all work out."
She only wished it were true.
