EXTRA CREDIT
Are you involved yet???
Extra Credit opportunities are available to encourage you to be an ACTIVE part of your community.  You may choose to collect up to FIVE POINTS per quarter to be added to your quarter grade.  If you have more than FIVE POINTS at the end of the first quarter, the balance will be carried over to the next grading period.

All extra credit opportunities must be approved by the instructor in advance.

All extra credit must be recorded on the  EXTRA CREDIT APPLICATION CALENDAR.  Each entry on the calendar must reflect the name of the event and the starting and ending time.

Agendas w/notes and/or signed statements must be attached to the calendar after a reflective paragraph of 3-5 sentences (What I Learned) is written on the back of the calendar for each entry.

All extra credit opportunities are divided into two categories:

PASSIVE opportunities include attending various elected and/or appointed board meetings for the entire meeting or a minimum of 1.5 hours.  You should secure a copy of the agenda  and take notes.  Completing your application will generally lead to an assignment of 1 point extra credit.

The Sunday edition of the Charlotte Observer Cabarrus Neighbors is a good source for meeting dates, locations and agendas.

ACTIVE opportunities can include campaigning for a candidate, party or special interest group.  A signed statement re: participation must be obtained from the person in charge of the activity unless an instructor is present to verify participation.  Completing your application will generally lead to an assignment of 1 point per hour unless the point value has been determined in advance.  Generally, additional active opportunities become available during the semester that you may choose to complete.
