ACT Active Citizenship Training (Honors Civics & Economics) |
ACT is 27!!! ACT began in the fall of 1980 under the direction of creators, Brenda Williams, Robbie Barringer and Lynne Allred. Over a two year period prior to this time, we had attended the Robert A. Taft Institute at UNC Charlotte under the direction of Dr. Schley Lyons. His guidance and support were invaluable to us as the program began and grew. His passion for citizenship education has served us as we have tried to help students understand that THEY are the government. The Advanced (or Honors) Economic, Political and Legal Education class, referred to as ACT (Active Citizenship Training), attempts to bridge the gap between the acquisition of textbook knowledge and the application of that knowledge by providing hands-on experiences through simulations, projects, community service, a Junior Achievement Student Company, as well as question and answer sessions with practitioners from the systems. Brenda Williams passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2007. |
Your quarter average consists of: Tests/Projects 85% (Reading Quizzes average to a Test) Community Service 15%. |
