Hindu girl abducted

Pampi Mai (13) a Hindu girl, daughter of Mangala Ram of Chak No. 75/DNB district Bahawalpur was abducted by a Muslim family on June 27, 2006.

Pampi went with Bano Bibi daughter of Muhammad Akram to her house to see her, as they were friends. When Pampi did not return after a while her father went to Akram’s house, and found that no one was there. The people around told him that they saw Akram, Fiaz and Imran taking her away in a car. At that time she was wearing expensive jewelry.

Mangala Ram met Akram who promised that he would return his daughter but on the very next day he refused to do so.

The police first refused to register the FIR, later did so on approaching the authorities. However the accused were not arrested till this report.                                                                NCJP Report

Six years old girl converted

A six-year-old Sikh girl had been forcibly converted to Islam at Peshawar. While the police and the courts had failed to come to her rescue.

The Secretary General of Guru Nanak Ji Mission (GNJM) Mr. Kalyan Singh Kalyan said, “A six-year-old Sikh girl had been forcibly converted to Islam at Peshawar”               Daily Dawn May 27, 2006

Neelam Ludhani - Karachi

Misari Ludhani, a Hindu father registered a case, that his daughter Neelam Ludhani had been abducted. When the matter came in to the Supreme Court the abducted girl stated that she had embraced Islam and married Amjad of Sukkar with her free will.

The father of the abducted girl stated that he had no objection on her conversion if it is done with her free will, but he is worried about her future.

The Supreme Court exercising its parental jurisdiction ordered that groom’s father should deposit 15 lacs as a bank guarantee; a house and share of Amjad in the business should also be transfer to Neelam for her future security. She was permitted by the court to live with her husband and meet with her parents in the presence of her husband and father-in-law.      Daily Pakistan May 26, 2006

Asifa - Jia Mosa

Zainab Bibi, a Christian woman filed an application in the Session Court saying that her daughter Asifa Shamshad (a school teacher) went to school on August 17, 2006, was missing after her school. She learnt later that her daughter is in Dar-ul-Aman. When the victim was brought to the court from Dar-ul-Aman, she stated that she had converted to Islam and her new name was Rabia. She also said that she would go back with her parents if they guarantee her that she would be allowed to live as a Muslim. Her parents agreed, and the family was reunited.Daily Nawa-e-Waqt August 20, 2006

Conversion of a Sri Lankan prisoner

A Sri Lankan prisoner embraced Islam. He came to Afghanistan to write a book on the situation of Afghanistan, but lost his documents when he was traveling. He was arrested at Toorkham (border post between Pakistan and Afghanistan) and handed over to Pakistani Officials. Daily Nawa-e-Waqt June 25, 2006

Sarabjit Singh - prisoner

Sarabjit Singh, an Indian national convicted under the Terrorist Act in Pakistan, converted to Islam during his prison sentence. He was sentenced to death on the allegation of involvement in four-bomb blasts in Pakistan.

His lawyer Rana Abdul Hameed said that, his client was involved in smuggling and not terrorism. Moreover, his appeal filed in Supreme Court was dismissed as the appeal was filed with 32 days delay.

Sarabjeet having no one to pursue his case in Pakistan was totally dependent on the justice system and the state was responsible to ensure a legal consultant on time. His execution was delayed several times and a mercy petition was pursued by his family in India.

Legal questions were raised, as to whether the President of Pakistan could pass a clemency orders or commute his death sentence, as the right to pardon in culpable homicide had been shifted to the heirs of the deceased persons under Qisas and Diyat Ordinance.

Mr. Wasi Zaffar, the Federal Minister for Law made a statement that Sarbajeet will not get any benefit from his conversion to Islam.                                         NCJP / Daily Times April 7, 2006

Rukhsana - Lahore
