| In an effort to find a source for the marriage of Francis Cogdell to Celia Boone. I found a source that disproves the marriage of Francis to Celia daughter of Thomas Boone. I copied the page below from the book, "THOMAS BOON IMMIGRANT AND 1,000 OF HIS DESCENDENTS" as compiled by Rupert Farnham Thompson 929.273 B644t v. 1 The webpages below deal with the family of Thomas Boone and Alice Winborne and their daughter Celia who married John Wheeler. A daughter living in NC in 1854 applied for a pension based on his war service: On this the 19th day of April 1854 personally appeared Elizabeth Britt age 73 years, before the subscriber, a justice of the peace for and in the County of Wayne and State of North Carolina and after duly sworn according to law, makes the following declaration. That she is the daughter of Francis Cogdell deceased and of his wife whose maiden name was Celia Boon. She has often heard her father and mother speak of having served in the Revolutionary War about five years. She is not able to state under what officers her father served; that her father was married to her mother about the year 1730 and that her father Francis Cogdell died in the year 1824 (sic) and her mother died in the year 1841 leaving 3 children, viz Richard, Peggy, and Elizabeth, all of which have since died except the petitioner; she prays for such pension as she may be entitled to as she heretofore failed to apply being ignorant of our rights as was her mother. /s/ Elizabeth Britt. I hereby certify that I am acquainted with Elizabeth Britt who signed the foregoing declaration; that she is an aged and respectable woman and her declaration may be relied upon as true and correct but from old age and infirmities, she is unable to attend court living at a considerable distance therefrom. 19 day of ____, 1854 /s/ R Rayner: JP (Pension file R-2104) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My conclusion from the information is that Francis may have married twice, first to Selah then later to Celia Boon I find at least three reasons for this. 1. From the above we know that Celia Boon had three children: Richard, Peggy and Elizabeth. Mary Cogdell was not named as a child of Celia. 2. The Hood Bible Record names Francis Cogdell and Selah as Mary's parents. 3.
