| Aimee was awakened by the sound of the birds chirping. She stepped out of her bed and let out a yelp. She stepped on her wet clothes from yesterday. They were still soaked. She didn't bother putting them in to wash. She was way too tired. She cleaned herself up and went into her living room. She remembered that Brian wanted her to apologize to Nick. She didn't think she needed to, though. She picked up the phone and dialed Nick's number, but hung up at the first ring. She dialed one more time, and she heard Nick's voice at the other line. "Hello? Hello! Is anyone there," Nick yelled over the phone. Aimee hung up, and the phone rang again about 2 seconds after. She picked it up and heard Nick's voice. "Who is this? And why do you keep calling me," Nick said in an angry voice. "It's Aimee," she squeaked out. "Oh. You need to stop calling. I think prank calling is a little childish," Nick said, then hung up the phone. Aimee slammed the phone down and grabbed her keys. She thought it would be a lot easier to do this, if she was talking to him face to face. She locked the door behind her and went to her car. She remembered where he lived and found it in about 15 minutes. She drove up into the driveway and stepped out of the car. She walked up the walkway and to the door. She knocked lightly on the door, but no one came. She finally knocked hard with her fist, and she heard someone coming to the door. Nick opened the door and looked at her. He was wearing a white tank top and baggy jeans. His hair was all messed up. It looked like he just got up from a nap. "What do you want," Nick asked, crossing his arms. "I just want to.. um... want to..." Aimee said, but couldn't bring herself to say it. "Want to what? You can say it. You are a big girl," Nick said sarcastically. Aimee looked down at the ground and noticed a picture on the grass. She picked it up and saw that it was a picture of her and Brian from a year ago. They were at the beach. She felt tears coming to her eyes. She didn't know why. She never cried about him, but all of a sudden she couldn't help herself. She felt stupid for crying in front of Nick because of a dumb picture. "Well," Nick asked, not knowing she was crying. He looked down at her and noticed the tears in her eyes. She turned away from him, but he just followed her. "What's wrong," He asked with a concerned voice. "Where did you get this picture," She asked, showing him the picture. He studied it and noticed it was the picture he found Brian looking at the day before. "It's Brian's. He said he carries it around everywhere. It must have fallen out of his pocket," Nick told her. "Oh," she said, handing it to Nick. "You don't need to cry," Nick said, putting his arm around her. She was surprised, when he put his arm around her, but it felt nice. She needed someone to comfort her. Christa went out of town that day, so all she had was him. "Do you want to come inside? It's getting windy out here. I think a storm is coming," Nick told her. She nodded and followed Nick into his house. She sat down on the couch, and he went to the kitchen and brought her back a Pepsi. "Thanks," she said, opening the can. "Brian told me why you two broke up," Nick told her. "Oh," Aimee said. "He didn't cheat on you," Nick told her. "I don't want to talk about it. He has a girlfriend. He moved on. I moved on," she said, taking a sip of her soda. They sat there talking for a good 4 hours. It felt nice to have someone to talk to. He actually made her laugh, and that was hard to do. She felt a connection with him, but she didn't want to admit it to herself. She could never go out with Brian's best friend. That would be weird. By the time she looked at the clock again, it was 8:00pm. "I think I need to get going," Aimee said to him. They both stood up, but then the lights went out, which left them standing in the dark. The only time Aimee could see Nick was when the lightning flashed into the house. "I don't think you are going to be going anywhere. The lights are out all over town," Nick said, looking out of the window into the dark street. Aimee made her way over to Nick, trying to find him in the dark. Finally, she bumped into him. When she looked up, she saw his face looking down at her. When the lightning flashed, his blue eyes seemed to twinkle in the light. She had a strange feeling, when she looked at him. He slowly leaned down and kissed her softly. She kissed him back. Then, the lights went back on. They broke, and Nick gave her a shy smile. "Well, the lights are back on. I can go home," Aimee said to him with a smile. "Okay. I will see you tomorrow," Nick said back to her. Aimee walked out of the house with a smile on her face. She got into her car and slowly drove away from Nick's house. Nick watched her drive away. He didn't know why he kissed her. He just had this feeling. But he felt terrible that he liked her. He didn't like her 5 hours ago. Now he kissed her. Brian was right. You just need to get to know her, and you will fall in love with her. He knew that Brian was right. He was falling for her, although he didn't want to. The reason he felt terrible was because he liked the woman that Brian still loved. It felt strange, but he liked the feeling. He walked back into his house with a grin on his face. |
