Dear Parents:

We am very excited to have your child enrolled in the eighth grade Computer Discovery classes. Your child will be exposed to many aspects of the computer. One credit toward high school graduation will be given for successful completion of this class. (Please refer to the Student Handbook for grade and attendance policies.)

Computer Discovery uses an innovative, multimedia environment to make the subject matter come alive. This course is designed to provide fundamental skills in the operation of microcomputers, including an introduction to computers, keyboarding skills, and file management skills. Real-world applications in word processing, graphics, database management, telecommunications, spreadsheets, and desktop publishing will make the course exciting, relevant, and challenging. This course will integrate communication, math and science skills. Also included will be expanded basics in problem solving, decision making, critical thinking, human relations, career exploration, planing, organization, and personal skills to prepare you for a future career.

Students are required to keep a notebook of all activities through the year. All students need a 2 or 3-inch binder with dividers and paper.

In order for your child to be able to take advantage of these learning activities, it is necessary for each student to adhere to certain classroom and lab guidelines. These guidelines were given out on the first day of school. Your signed forms are on file in your child's classroom.

Parents are free to visit our lab at any time. We look forward to a good school year.

Sincerely,

Naomi Bates & Angie Nowell
