The 10th Anniversary National Black Arts Festival, a 10-day cultural celebration recognizing the achievements and influence of artists of African descent. Artistic disciplines represented: MUSIC, THEATER, FILM, LITERATURE, DANCE, VISUAL, PERFORMING AND FOLK ART.

FOCUS: "Art Beyond Borders"
Reflects the artistic excellence of the African diaspora, transcending disciplinary, spacial, geographical and spiritual borders. This years' focus affirms that African Diaspora Art is the triumphant and transcendent expression of African peoples throughout the world.
1998 ARTISTIC DIRECTOR: Dr. Dwight Andrews
Composer, educator and minister who succeeds actor Avery Brooks. Music curator for the past three Festivals, Dr. Andrews is an Associate Professor of Music at Emory University and Pastor at 1st Congregationalist Church.
BACKGROUND
The National Black Arts Festival (NBAF) was established in 1987, with the first festival produced in 1988. Ten years later the NBAF has surpassed its original expectations and remains the premiere artistic showcase featuring prominent artists of African heritage from around the globe. The NBAF is held biennially in Atlanta, Georgia.
MISSION
To produce and present new and existing quality art by, for and relevant to artists of African descent which will enrich and educate the public and influence culture.
